Can't remember if it was the playoff clinch in 2021 or 2022 that the Astros played the A's and during the celebration Kemp just kept looking over to the Astros like smalls things that you remember sort of
think that was the Covid season, no? I remember Fiers dodged us, and the a's kept posting ab how they were the rebels and Astros were the empire? Something Star Wars-y. Also didn't someone threw out a foam cheese with "rat fiers" on it at Minute Maid that series too? Good times. edit: nvm thinking of the 2020 play offs.
Everyone has trouble with all 3 of their names. Actual spelling is: Yuli Gurriel, Ryan Pressly and Charlie F'n Morton
Morton was supposed to be done in 2018, so the fact he's been around this long is a surprise. We could have had 2 more WS if we would have resigned him. He's the one that got away.
They didn't want to give Morton a 2nd year, Tampa did (Dec 2018), McCullers wasn't extended until March of 2021.
I remember they didn't want to give him that now. I don't have a problem with Lance's extension like I said.
Tampa gave him 20 million over 2 years which in hindsight was a bargain. Again, the one that got away. One of the bigger mistakes that Luhnow made.
I don't know if we would have made the Greinke trade if we would have had him. But Verlander, Cole, Greinke, Morton would have been one of the sickest rotations ever.
He also is responsible for keeping us out of the WS in 2020 and beating us pretty soundly in 2021. If nothing else, it would have been addition by subtraction(subtracting him from the Rays and Braves)
62 starts were made by pitchers not named Verlander, Cole, Miley (and he was outstanding but burned out toward the end). Greinke made 10, so that's 52 starts by randos or youngsters. But the biggest thing is think of the pitching staff options in the postseason... eta: I still don't understand how JV won the CYA over Cole that year
Just making the comment that we made the Greinke trade looking at the postseason. If Charlie did what he did in Tampa with us, I'm not sure if we would have felt that we needed that trade. That being said, Crane loves trading for aces when he can.
