I was just thinking we could use someone like Lowrie to handle 2B for a little bit. Maybe Kemp could become the new Lowrie that we and the A's take turns playing hot potato with him.
Yuli is raking for Miami. Still not thrilled he's gone. He's got championship swagger and can hit playoff pitching. Could have had him for cheap!
I wanted Yuli back but there wouldn't have been any room for him with Alvarez, Brantley, and Abreu. He wouldn't get any playing time. I can see us trading for him at the deadline if there is a need for his bat. Marlins aren't going to the playoffs, so a prospect would be pretty good compensation for a last minute cheap contract.

Former Astros among top 100 in position player fwar thru today: 38. JD Davis 83. Josh Rojas 97. Jake Rogers Pitchers: 3. Gerrit Cole 38. Josh Hader 68. Vince Velasquez 72. Wade Miley 100. Patrick Sandoval
What’s the DFA count on the JV and Greinke trades? Luhnow knew their prospects… (except for Hader, and on a lesser level Teoscar)
Beer: DFA'd Bukauskas: DFA'd Martin: 60-day IL, 7.28 ERA and 1.930 WHIP as a Diamondback Rojas: Everyday starter, career OPS of 96 Basically, Rojas was the saving grace. At the time of the trade I though he looked like a throw-in compared to who else was in the deal. But apparently I've heard rumors that Luhnow was reluctant to include him, and that Crane told him to do it.
JD Davis, Josh Rojas, and Jake Rogers are all currently in the top 100 in the league in position player fwar. Josh Hader, Vince Velasquez, and Patrick Sandoval are in the top 100 in pitching fwar. Luhnow gave up some good players in trade. I’m sure some of the guys who didn’t pan out with other teams could’ve been more successful had they remained in the Astros system. JD Martinez and Josh Hader are the obvious major mistakes by Luhnow. Lots of other solid players but those two really sting.
Well the entire league whiffed on Martinez… and Luhnow readily admits that was his biggest total blunder as he didn’t even give him a chance that ST to show if his changes worked. That being said, had Luhnow overseen his draft/development, he probably does give him that chance. Bias is real when it comes to a GM’s “guys” vs. guys he inherited.
Outside of Hader, who would have had a pen role on any team (I hated giving him up, I said it then and I'll say it again), none of those guys had a place on the Astros given the veterans who were blocking them and 40-man/option issues. They went places where they could actually play, and have eventually had success, while some others haven't. You gotta give up stuff to get stuff.
