Cubs fans are going to love him. The fans and him can bond over their hate for Dusty.

Not exactly the 5 year $90M deal projected by SPOTRAC. The market is fickle and doesn't ALWAYS go up.

I'll be honest and was very surprised Mancini was not at least tendered the $10M Mutual option for 2023. I expected him to decline his side though.

this is why it pisses me off when every anti-Wagner HOF voter uses his minuscule playoff sample size as a reason to exclude him from the hall. If Mariano is the GOAT, voters need to recognize that even the best get tagged in the playoffs…it’s part of the game and happens to the best. I didn’t hear Mad Dog Russo or Heyman cite Mariano’s post season walk off losers in his near unanimous 1st ballot suckfest

Ummm...I want Billy Wagner in the HOF, too, but Rivera was really good in the playoffs. And Rivera certainly wasn't on the mound for the walk-off homer by Aaron Boone...they were on the same team.

While I agree on the basic premise of people overvaluing small playoff sample sizes, Rivera allowed 2 less earned runs than Wagner..in 130 more innings. I don't think any closer should be in the HOF except Rivera and that's only because his playoff numbers are incomprehensibly dominant.

Also not sure why you chose the joke tweet to make your point.

Of the modern closers, you can't have Rivera without Hoffman. There are others depending on your criteria

I wish he would have thrown one of those sliders in the playoffs instead of pumping 7 middle of the plate fastballs to Jim ****ing Leyritz.

You just named three which should be in the HOF that didn't fit old criteria because of the introduction of the CLOSER Role. There may be others.
    Rivera
    Hoffman
    Wagner

Yep. But I don’t think he started throwing the slider with regularity till later.

His fastball had a ton of movement, hence why he did feel he could throw it again and again (and again). Maybe the pitching ninja can do an overlay with just his fastballs.

I never seen a "big name" acquisition like that ride the bench so much that his confidence was completely sapped.

Sure you can. Rivera is the best of Trevor Hoffman and Billy Wagner combined. Rivera is simply in class of his own. Hoffman's longevity made him the 2nd best closer of the era, but it was a massive gap between 1 and 2.
