Many people don't really care for being told how to live their lives, and frequently will see unsolicited suggestions as tactless criticism rather than caring, helpful advice, regardless of intent and/or presentation.

I like meat. Good on anyone who can live a healthy and happy life without it. Don't care much for pills, though.

    Fo sheezy!

Big difference between meat and processed food.
Lean nice piece of steak - healthy!
Eating a home made burger every now and then - not bad!

Eating McDonalds every day - asking for trouble.

It seems like most people discussing health here have no idea what the China Study or Forks Over Knives even talks about.

Sure, meat and dairy are okay if you want to maintain a healthy weight. But animal based protein has been demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt to be a leading cause of cancer...

Personally, I have a tough time taking it all the way. I have been a home-vegetarian for 2 years (I'll eat meat at certain social events, maybe once every 3 months) and I am not committed enough right now to even attempt eliminating cheese. But I know it isn't good for me in any way and I know it could cause cancer...

It's not about whether or not I'm able to maintain a healthy weight, it's about whether or not I want to lower my chance of getting cancer.

I don't know either of you, and you're probably a jerk for saying it, but I laughed out loud at that.

There is no video, brochure, pamphlet, or any of that in this world that would make me like or consume less meat.

"It's time for you to start eating right, exercising, & getting in shape like me!"
-"I'm in better shape than you."
"Okay let's compare- I just lost a hundred pounds... how much weight did you lose again? Didn't THINK so!"

I didn't realize that eating meat was such a religion. If you want to eat it, then be it. I'm still going to eat meat. I love the taste too much not to. But its like riding motorcycles. I've been riding them all my life, and I'll be the last one to tell you that they are safe.

So meat eaters are largely hyper-defensive...got it.

haven't seen the movie yet, but did just rent it from iTunes. thx for posting this rockbox.

one thing i'm not clear on yet is what looks like assertion that dairy products are not beneficial or appropriate for human consumption. this is b/c in the past i have seen several studies indicating certain cultures enjoy extended lifespans particularly due to the large amount of yogurt in there diet (ie. the bacterial cultures which benefit the digestive tract)

Another reason to eat less meat, which rarely goes mentioned, is that crops have a significantly lower carbon emissions footprint than livestock. So, if you consider global warming an issue in how you live, then eating less meat is worth considering (as much as recycling, buying green, etc).

The problem with all studies is that there are many variables that can't be accounted for. I don't know the benefits of yogurt or probiotics, but maybe its only beneficial because people eat meat. Again that's just an idea that could possibly explain it. We know for sure that dairy isn't a necessity because the Japanese do not consume dairy and they have the longest lifespan in the world and have no problems with Osteoporosis. Osteoporosis occurs most frequently in countries with high dairy and meat consumption which is definitely counter-intuitive.

    Edit:

Actually they do have a problem with osteoporosis(all countries do), just not as high of a rate as the US.

I think like religion or politics, people want to do what they want to do and find evidence to support their beliefs and behavior. Trust me, I've been looking for evidence that eating ice cream and fried chicken every meal will give me a body like Dwight Howard for the longest time.;)

There is a slant to every story or study. The person who produced this movie definitely wants you to go Vegan where there is no definitive evidence that its better for you than a diet with very low meat/dairy consumption. The only evidence is its definitely better for you than the normal western diet.

Everything in moderation. That's my philosophy. In my non-expert opinion, the human body is far too complex to say the risks of eating meat far outweigh the benefits (at least for lean, non-red meats). There are too many contradicting reports and studies out there that are constantly coming out.

So if I want a juicy burger, I have one. But that's a rare occasion. I'm not going to let a film tell me to not eat chicken, fish, eggs, or milk...all of which are staples in my diet.

 My point didn't restrict to preference of diet alone, but whatever. If being flippant about it makes you feel your point is made, good for you.
