Yes, we need resign him at a right price. I think Morey can do it, he is a smart GM, should be able to do a smart thing. We will lost the pick if we simply let him walk away.

    This is the correct answer.

We haven't gotten out of the 1st round in so long that we have started treating it like it is some sort of barometer of a good team. Getting out of the second round is nothing. We're in the same boat as the Hawks, but old.

Everything depends on how we fair in this series. If we get blown out multiple times and look like we never had a chance then how much better could we really be with Yao/Ron another year older and whatever player we get from Tracy's expiring contract. If we give the lakers a run for their money then i think Ron has a fat paycheck waiting for him. And, if we win the series he could pretty much name his price.

I don't think we should sign him he is a question mark and you never know if he is only acting well because he's in his contract year.

Just put some contract clauses in to restrict the damages. It isn't that hard. We have written contracts for a reason.

i'm assuming that they trade tmac in the off season. i dont think they want him around the team after this season. my point was that i think resigning ron depends on what pieces we get for tmac.

for example, if the rockets trade with the warriors for a couple of wing players, there would be no reason to resign ron because it would create a log jam. if the rockets trade with another team for a PG and a C then i would think resigning ron would be important again.

i think the rockets will focus on trading tmac before resigning FA's. it is important to go into such big trade negotiations without any guidelines for a return package. we dont want to be restricted with what position the incoming players play. trading tmac before signing ron/von gives the rockets the opportunity to take the best offer regardless of position.

then after the incoming players are known, you can decide is it a good idea to bring back ron, or will there be no minutes for him?

Just because you play with an injury doesn't mean you have heart and courage. There are other ways to show you have heart. If guys are playing with a specific injury that they know they shouldn't that can be dumb on their behalf. Playing with an injury can hurt the team more than help. Sitting out is the best answer. You don't have to prove to anyone that you have heart by playing hurt.

Not really, no. He was a classic powerless power forward.

This is something that you and me will never see eye to eye on. Both sides have valid point so it becomes an issue of opinion. Lets just agree we disagree and stop talking about it.

That would be fantastic. What Ron wants Ron gets. Can't wait till he breaks off Kobe.

Well... he is built like a wide receiver. I am going to assume any physical confrontation with Artest will hurt. Then again, Kobe is not exactly mentally or physically weak. I just don't want Artest going after any stupid steals. I just want him to stay on Kobe.

What Ron wants? How about, what will the market bear? Who might be made available in an SnT? 3/30 sounds about right to me. But maybe Riley will offer Beasley and Haslim and a brace of #1s. Do you bite if you're DM the GM? If Cavs get shortstopped n the way to the King's Crown, what might they throw into an SnT? And so forth???

RonHawk stands to earn himself Beltronesque beaucoups of extra $$$s if he does to Kobe and the Lakes what CB did in the '05 p/o's.

Like Carlos, Ron-Ron already stands to be filthy rich. Now, can he add a few dozen filthier mils into the hoop?

Artest was a big part of the team that made progress for the first time in 12 years....
I don't think we should take a way from this team, I think we should add to it..
    So I say
    RESIGN!

Remember those awful-looking 3-pointers that he used to heave up there? They had no rotation whatsoever.

the thing is, we have first dibs at him. i don't see any other teams raving about artest so i'm sure whatever we offer will be best.

IMO we have other contracts coming off of the books this year who cost a little bit of money, such as brian cook, and i doubt new orleans would do this, but trading tmacs contract to them woudl give them a star player, if hes healthy, then enough money to do something with their team the year after, and we could get chris paul, who is obviously not happy over there since they refuse to build around him

It has been discussed (and I agree) that neither Ron nor TMAC are good compliments for Yao because both of them like to hold the ball thus bogging down the offense. Feigen recently discussed (blog) that Ron is best in catch and shoot situations as oppose to holding and pounding the ball. However, Ron and TMAC are not catch and shoot players. I think the best compliment for Yao and the offense in general are catch and shoot players. Therefore, I would like to see someone like Kevin Martin, Ben Gordon or Rip Hamilton brought in to compliment the offense. If you could keep Ron for the MLE, I would be ok with that. However, I do not see Ron as offense off the bench which seemed to be the role early in the season when TMAC was playing.
