I think a lot of the decision hinges on this series...

I can count on one hand the players that are worth 20 mil or more a year...

    - Lebron
    - Kobe
    - Wade
    - Pierce
    - CP3

Somebody needs to remember this comment. Guys love Artest because in one year he helped the Rockets get passed the 1st round. Every loves him. They want to resign him. Lets see how guys feel after this series. :(

i disagree, if they can get ron to agree to something that doesn't lock them up to long a term, it doesn't matter what they do with t mac. t mac can come back and play one year, he can not come back and they do nothing, or they can attempt to get value. it all depends on if they have a guy like ron signed up.

which brings up another, what will be out there if they don't sign ron, with the money he frees up.

Houston loves Artest because of the following:

    - He plays with a lot of heart and determination
    - He actually plays through injuries
    - His positives far outweigh his negatives
    - He is very enthusiastic with the community
    - He brings a toughness we have not had since the days of Hakeem, Elie, and Maxwell

I think it completely depends on McGrady. If the McGrady era is over, I think they should get rid of Artest. Sure, he got us by round 1, but an Artest-Yao tandem is a recipe for mediocrity, too good for high lotto picks and not good enough for championships. If the Rockets think McGrady can come back from his injury and they're willing to offer him another contract, then they should keep Artest. He might eventually have a brain-fart that detroys the team, but the trio all playing together with the supporting cast we have would be lethal in the meantime.

the problem is they have to decide on what happens with Artest before they have any idea how McGrady recovers

R.I.P but didn't Eddie Griffin bring toughness to the Rockets?? and You can argue that him playing through injuries. Everyone plays through injuries so you shouldn't have said that. People do tend to play when hurt. Its stupid of them to do it because you can make the situation worst but they do it anyway.. BTW I think you guys are falling into Ron Artest's trap. Hint Hint it is a contract year. Anyone is going to be on their best behavior. I've followed Artest since his bulls days and please he is no saint lol.

Artest and Yao are not meant to play the game together. Original plan is to have Artest come off the bench to provide a consistent scoring threat. We can keep Artest to keep next year interesting and sign a backup C and a closer.

If he agrees to a modest deal (3 yrs/$25M), yes. If he wants a deal starting with double figures, hell no.

I don't think Ron is going to get what he thinks he's worth, and that could lead to resentment, and I'd rather the Rockets not sign the guy under those circumstances.

I think he is worth at least 11 mil. Battier is worth about 7 mil and Artest is a much better scorer.

What are the alternatives to signing Ron? I'd be ok with resigning him, but are there better opportunities? I like what he's brought to the team overall, but his decision making drives me crazy at times.

That's overstating it a bit. They will have some idea how McGrady is doing healthwise, especially since this microfracture surgery was supposed to be especially mild. Of course, it's still somewhat of a gamble, but I'd let my best guess of McGrady dictate what I'm doing with Artest.

There's also the fact that there are some fans that want nothing to do with McGrady regardless and think he has no heart, or no spine, or no brain, or liver or whatever. If Morey shares that sentiment, then he'll unload McGrady anyway. If that's the case, I think he should unload Artest too.

Regardless of whether we keep or drop Artest, we're probably best off signing him and trading him instead of just letting him walk.

We don't have any money to sign anyone else. A good chunk of the MLE will go to sign Von. So if no one offers us anything good for Tmac's expiring, we will be screwed majorly.

He has always been competitive and had heart. Eddie Griffin never really brought toughness. He was suppose to be a great blocker but never worked out. Players shouldn't play through injuries, but the ones who are willing to for the better of the team are always the ones with heart and courage.
