His name keeps getting mentioned along with them in the media (TNT, ESPN). I don't think I'm just imagining this.

b/c he's still in the playoffs. he's really the same player -> a great scorer and nothing else. he has a very balanced team around him this year that allows him to just focus on scoring.

but please, he's nowhere near dwayne wade.

mcgrady before last year was always mentioned among the elites when the playoffs rolls around. but his all-around game has always been superb in the playoffs.

but u can't knock on melo. if you keep winning in the playoffs, the spotlight gets bigger on you b/c less players are still playing. can't hate melo for that. he needs his props. he's playing well.

he will never get there. his all-around game just simply isn't there. but they don't expect melo to be an all-around player in denver. his job is to score and he's definitely scoring with the best of them in the playoffs.

Hes only 25 so you just can't say never. There only two things he needs to get better at making his team mates better and playing better D. This year in the playoffs his D looks a lot better than in the past so maybe this is a turning point. I think the making his team mates better may be tough for him, but I think he can do it. He just need to learn a lot from Billups while hes there in Denver if he can do that I think he will become a great all around player.

i think all-around game is really natural to you. look at the best all-around players today, you know they are going to be all-around players the moment you see them play.

melo may improve, but he's never going to improve to where his playmaking will be at a high level enough for us to put him in the level of the great players. but like i said, his job is to score. denver expects that out of him, along with the boards. anything else is icing on the cake for them.

you see with bron/wade/kobe/or even tmac before this year, the offense is triggered from them primarily everywhere on the court. i doubt we can ever see melo controlling an offense like those guys can.

If you remember when Tracy was in Orlando people never really thought he was a great all around player, hell even a young Kobe wasn't great at making his team mates better. But over the year they grew as player yes you can say they played with better team mates even with saying that you still have to trust your team.

in his last year in toronto, tracy got his minutes from playing defense and being a playmaker. that's why he got his max contract despite never really shine b/c people saw his all-around potential.

kobe still isn't a "great" playmaker, but b/c he's such a dominant scorer and ballhandler, he can control the offense by himself.

You don't strike me as the type to place much stock in what ESPN/TNT says...maybe I was wrong.

The media always hypes different stories. The USA Basketball/2003 draft stories are easy TV. If Bosh's team was any good you would be hearing similar things.

I don't think he will be able to get to the level of the other 3 mostly because he isn't a passer, but the best of him is yet to come. His versatility makes him a difficult matchup. Glenn Robinson could not post up like Carmelo, nor could he hit the 3 ball. Robinson was a poor defender, whereas Melo is average to good. He can hit the finger roll shot and can get better with more experience.

It's good to point out what he can't do,but I don't think you are giving credit for what he can do.

The thread topic is "hype". Most people get their national NBA coverage from the TNT team and ESPN.

Swap Melo for Wade and honestly tell me he can take that crappy Heat team to the 5th spot in the East. What a stupid call by Smith.

That's right on the money. I was trying to think of someone to compare him to.
