Forget if Lin starts, the real question should be whether his minutes drastically reduces

There is no hate for Lin. He is a good player but he has too many intolerable fans.

 

His minutes will cap off at 28, rarely going over 30 unless he's playing extremely well. Last year he started and only averaged 32 minutes, so it's reasonable to say his minutes will decrease in the range from 2 to 5 minutes, especially now that Bev is the starter and will likely finish most of the games.

 

McHale has not proven to be a coach that cannot adjust mid game. Thus, I can't see him playing a back up more than the starter, unless the starter got into foul trouble. Bev's defense is somewhat overrated - if he plays up tight against the better stronger point guards, they're going to eat him alive. No matter how quick you are, the ball handler knows where he wants to go vs the defender having to react, and more importantly he is going forward, whilst the defender is backing up. Nov 4th and 5th games if Bev starting is going to see a lot of blow bys.
