I've had my 05 GT for about 2 months, and it truly has been the most amazing car experience I've ever had. There's no way I could afford that Shelby beast.....but I do love my GT.
The 67 was a crap st8 6 banger 200 I think. The '68 was fantastic, fastest car in High school until the guy that built a Vega 327 put nitras(sp?) in his car. The '69 I gave to my brother and he is now turning high 10s in the quarter mile on straight engine. I have graduated to the Explorer, and am now wanting a little muscle from my youth. How much is the Shelby? DD
Finally, a Mustang was not built from the scrap bins of other cars. It was built from the ground up and didn't borrow the platform from Falcons, Fairlanes, or Lincolns...It sure took them long enough to do it REALLY right, but damn, they sure nailed it when they put their minds to it.
As far as I know, the numbers are not out yet. The pics I posted are from the Dearborn Warranty center I believe. They SC GT500 should be debuted today at the New York Car Show. If you got a little spare $$$, can you order one for me as well, sort of a finders fee?
The new Mustangs (and this Shelby) look great, but they are still Fords so I would never buy one. I have always wanted a '69 Mach 1. But no new Fords for me.
I have never understood people's hate for a certain brand. I mean, I own a Ford. But that doesn't mean I hate Chevy. Each manufactuar makes some damn nice vehicles. Hell, I even like some Dodges.
I will always own a Mustang because I've always loved Mustangs. I wouldn't turn away a Corvette, or some other nice cars, but I would never choose them over a Mustang. Cars in my family include Chrysler Town & Country, Chevy Astrovan, Mercury Mystique, and ex's Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a BMW 325i.
I have yet to drive the New Mustangs and though I like the design better than the previous ones, I really doubt the drive is that much better. I bought a Mustang Cobra in college to fix up and had a blast in it. It was a rocket off of the line, but in reality was a very poor, handling car and left much to be desired in terms of the drive. Before that I had driven a Nissan 300ZX, and though it only had 225 HP versus the 315 of the Mustang, it was an absolute pleasure to drive. It handled beautifully and I could corner at a reasonable speed versus in the Cobra I was all over the road like the dukes of hazzard. I'm thinking of getting rid of my play car and getting the New Porsche 911 or a MB CLK 55 AMG. I'm actually faced with the same dilemna. The Porsche handles and drives better and will respond much better and is a 6-speed. The AMG 55 engine is 362 Horsepower though versus the 296 of the 911. Its quite a dilemna!!

It has nothing to do with car rivalry. I just don't like cheap cars. Most Ford's I have driven have been pretty bad and the newer model Mustangs, including the '05, have driven like boats. I also don't trust the workmanship/reliability of the vast majority of American cars.
Interesting about the Mustangs. You do know that from 1982-2004, they all had the same body. And the Camaro's were widely considered to be "boatier" than the Stang. When did you really last drive a Mustang? Hmmmm?
Actually, '79 was the first year of the Fox Body Stang and the Fox ended in 1993..Then there was the sn-95(terminator style)94-98. '94 and '95 in GT trim used the 5.0 pushrod engine. '96-'98 went with the modular 4.6. I'll have to check, but I believe the chassis stayed the same until 1998. The '99-2004's used a modified Lincoln Chassis, and the 2005 were built from the ground up exclusively Mustang. But I might be wrong.
I've never seen a GT rental. usually, they come out with only the 6 cylinder models for rental. Which rental company uses GT's. I'm not calling BS...I want to know where I can rent one for the weekend...
