I rate this thread... or actually CHAD FORD... an F.. stupid guy.. he should keep his comments to himself.. HE MAKES ME SICK... GFR... all he is doing is spreading poison and making up stories.... Hey why dont all you TRADE PPL try to get a job for ESPN, it seems like yall would make money... yall arent different than Chad Ford... and maybe yall can say more reasonable stuff... BTW that was a compliment and not sarcasm... hmmm... maybe some sarcasm involved...
Ummm yes Chad Ford, Rudy T was in fact part of the problem. I love Rudy too, but he's not the type of coach this team needs right now. As far as I'm conerned our offseason was a B+, we added what we needed. I didn't know you have to sign a high priced free agent to get an A.
According to most ppl... you do have to sign a superstar... It seems like if you dont sign a superstar, your team is automatically not a playoff team, well according to lots of ppl in this board as i have analyzed.... They even start saying nonsense about cheaper making the playoffs... I mean i would also give the Rockets a B+.... The only way i would give them an A is if they were to sign Mark Jackson, and a power forward like Tyrone Hill... Then the team would be complete.... OH YEAH and trade Moochie Norris... Too bad detroit doesnt want another point guard.... or i would trade for chucky atkins immediately.. i think both mooch and him have ridiculous contracts so it wouldnt make a difference except atkins is better...
How did the Mavs get a B+ when they did nothing to shore up there defensive deficiencies. They lost out on Zo and sat back idle while all the other contenders got bigger. Jamison was a good acquisition and brings another option to their potent offense buuuuut DEFENSE wins games. They'll be down and out in the playoffs again w/o any real inside presence. Therefore, they don't deserve anything better than a C.
No most of us just think we actually need a starting quality small forward to improve substantially from last year. Jamison or SAR are above average small forwards, maybe even stars, but absolutely not NBA superstars. Posey is a major step down from them, but still a hell of a lot better than what we have now. Yes, some of us thick skulled people also happen to think going into the season with the worst pair of starting forwards in the entire league might. in addition to lead to losses in games we should not lose. but actually have a detrimental impact on Yao, SF and Cat by frustrating them, allowing defenses to pound on them, and make them think they have to individually carry the team, and that this may not further their development as court leaders. Yes, what are we thinking, aquiring the 9th or 10th guy off of Dallas's bench last year and the 7th or 8th guy off the Clippers bench surely solved our major problems. IMHO you should work on your analyzing skills. I have no idea what you are talking about here but the fact the Rocket brass has been cheap (not matched Posey, not spent, traded for, or negotiated for a quality starting 3) has not helped our clime to be a signficiantly better team. C-, and only because JVG was a B+ coaching move balancing the D personelle moves. Mark Jackson, what the h*ll are you thinking. A guy who causes trouble off the court, who is slow, can't defend, and can't shoot--I'd much rather stick with Mooch. Ward or maybe some other defensive focused vet PG might be Ok though. OK, yes I would like Ty Hill for the vet min. Pigs88, first thing your analyzing was dead on, use this as a model.
Hey im working on my analyzing skills... Im still trying to get use to them.. Im only in tenth grade and i went to a junior high that only thought me nothing but crap... Ill be working on them though... Youll see how i will develop them 2 years from now.. TY for the advice though.. No sarcasm involved...
You caught me in a bad mood and I glad you have a thick skin about it. No Posey, sitting on the sidelines with Jamison going for cheap, no apparent moves on the horizon, bugs the hell out of me because I want to see us put the best team we can and just don't think we have made much effort to because of money. Keep hanging around, it may get brutal sometimes, but it is good for your analyzing, articulating (you get nailed when your thinking is sloppy or carelss) and usually entertaining. I probably need to take a BBS break until the Rockets add another good player and can feel good about the current direction/ownership b/c right now I just don't.
I agree with u... but i would not want to take a break from the boards simply becuz i have nothing else to do in the computer..
While I hate this cliche in general, and feel it is overapplied, I do think that it is applicable to NBA coaches: If you aren't part of the solution, you're part of the problem. That was Rudy's biggest failing: he didn't stop the problem, which translates into letting the problem happen, which translates into furthering the problem. We'll see if Rudy could have addressed the problem, or if it was unavoidable. Maybe selfish play is so ingrained in these guys that Wooden wouldn't be able to get it out of them, who knows. We'll see if JVG can. One thing is clear: if the take I read on SF's comments on 610 are an accurate reflection of his sentiment, and the take I've heard on JVG's vision for the team are accurate, these two are on a collision course re: Yao being the focus of the offense. As such, it will be JVG's 1st test to see if he can accomplish what RT could not.
I think its pretty accurate in evaluation with the talent and coaching. I really think the Rockets will be alot better in close games than they were with Rudy and the team will do better against some of the less talented teams, but from a competing standpoint, i can't see them winning more than 1 game against the top 5 without more talent added to the mix. Players like Pike and Griffin can be found anywhere, so I don't think that was a upgrade for the Rockets. Tracy Murray and Glen Rice can do the same job as Pike. Adrain Griffin doesn't do anything any better than what Hawkins and Morris did last yr. If the Rockets show some nuts, they can get a good player or 2 through trade or at the least get rid of some of the poor contracts the have. It goes back to having a plan or a vision. If Dallas can sucker GSW out of Jamison and Welsch for NVE and trash, why can't the Rockets be so lucky?
leebigez - We will have to disagree on this one. IMO, Piatkowski's defense and mobility are far superior to Rice and Murray. And Pike can play SG and SF...neither Rice nor Murray can play the 2. Now before you go through the gyrations of telling me who Piatkowshi can't guard, please remember that he will more than likely be on the floor with Mobley (or AGriffin) and can take the lesser matchup. For example, matching up against Spree and Wally Z you put Cat on Spree and Pike on Wally Z. Wally would school Rice and Murray, but Piatkowski is quick enough to guard him. There's a reason Murray is still an FA - he only managed a total of 193 minutes for the LAL last season. He shot 32.4% from the field (21.1% from the arc) and averaged 2.0 ppg. His best days are looooong gone. So either Hawkins or Morris could have started for Dallas last season with no difference than AGriff starting? Again, I respectfully disagree. IMO, you are equating AG and Hawk purely as defensive players. As much as I love the Hawk's hustle and enjoy the human interest aspect of his making the Rockets, Griffin is far superior. Most notably on offense. Had the Rockets not offered AGriff a contract, another team would have and it would have occurred much earlier than Morris or Hawkins. And I won't even go into the difference in playoff experience. The Rockets could have had the biggest "plan" (or "nuts") of any team in the NBA, but ultimately there is no Rocket's equivalent to NVE. Your "plan" is to sucker some NBA team with....? Cato? Taylor? Rice? Eddie Griffin? C'mon, let's be real here. How do you develop a trading "plan" from the current roster? IMO, the Rockets have only 3 commodities - * Cuttino - underpaid overachiever in a league awash with SG's * Glen Rice's expiring contract - And the guy has done what as a Rocket? If a team is going to be salary cap conscious, the first order of business is to get someone who can play out (produce) in the final contract year - Sura, Chris Mills, NVE, etc. This is not Rice. And won't be until the Feb trade deadline when some teams have packed it in. * Eddie Griffin's "potential" - Potential and how much $ gets a latte at Starbuck's? What I would ask of you (because I have seen enough of your posts to know you understand the game) is that you at least wait until January before giving your final "grade" on Piatkowski and AGriffin. IMO, you are going to be very surprised by this underpaid duo.
How is Piatkowski underpaid. This is my biggest pet peeve. Jon Barry, a Piatkowski clone, signed for $2 million. 3 Point specialists aren't worth more than that. We paid FULL PRICE for Eric Piatkowski. He was not a steal or under market. I would say he's overpaid. Of course he's a bargain on this team because we need him more than other teams
And Posey's underpaid. You think we overpaid for Piatowski but you think we should have matched Memphis's deal. Posey makes twice as much, is a worse shooter, while getting more layups, and makes twice as much.
How the heck do the Spurs get an A - ? They had loads of cap space and ended up with a bunch of role players while big names like Jermaine Oneal , Jason Kidd, , Alonzo Mourning , Gary Payton , and Karl Malone were still available.
Are you kidding me. Can Piatkowski play defense? Can Piatkowski rebound? Can Piatkowski play a solid 30+ minutes a game? Layups? On this team? Im glad Piatkowski can shoot because he can't do anything else. And that's no different than Wesley Person (whom Posey is replacing) or Jon Barry or Voshon Leonard or an 80 year old Dell Curry. Posey shot 44% as a Houston Rocket. That was higher than Francis or Mobley. I never said Posey was underpaid. He was paid pretty much on par maybe slightly more. However, we all know he wanted to stay in Houston and Im sure he wouldve accepted less money to play here. The fact Houston offered him the same $ as Piatkowski is a joke.
The bigger "joke" will be when Houston can parlay the money they didn't spend on Posey + the fact that Piatkowski has 2 years less on his smaller than Posey contract + Glen Rice's expiring contract into a player that will make you forget how to spell "Posey".
prove that. all you or i or anyone not named CD or Les knows that the rockets offered was the qualifying offer, whose value was set in stone by posey's previous year's salary i believe, and whose offering was a formality to make sure he was a restricted, and not unrestricted, FA. you don't know if we offered him another contract or not. i don't know if we did or not. but to just assume we threw him the qualifying offer and left it at that and never offered more is a big leap. we didn't want to go to memphis' level, but that doesn't mean we didn't offer 4.5 or 5M/yr. piat's 1/2 of the MLE just happened to coincide with posey's 120% of last year's contract. it doesn't mean we made the same offer.
Posey bringing aggressive athleticism to Griz For The Defense By Ronald Tillery tillery@gomemphis.com August 9, 2003 James Posey still played for the Denver Nuggets when an obscure teammate performed what became a routine exercise against the Grizzlies. No one knew much about Rodney White then, and he's not much of a household name now. But White lit up the Griz backcourt early last season, coming off the bench to score 22 points in 26 minutes. He made 10-of-16 shots in adding to the main reason that Posey officially became a Grizzly today. Posey, whose four-year, slightly-less-than $24 million offer sheet went unmatched by the Houston Rockets, doesn't come with an all-star tag. However, Posey will be happy if he's eventually known in these parts as a defensive stopper. That's what the Grizzlies are counting on from the 6-8 swingman, who understands that his immediate chore is to construct more formidable roadblocks for opposing shooting guards. "Everything starts with me on the defensive end," Posey, 26, said in a telephone interview. "I'm about getting deflections, steals and just bringing energy to my team. (Defense) is one thing I know I can bring to the table." The Rockets were enamored with Posey after trading for him six weeks into the 2002-03 season. Then Griz president Jerry West practically ensured Posey's departure from Houston by offering him the full $4.9 million midlevel exception. Posey, a restricted free agent, received only a $2.445 million qualifying offer from the Rockets, who had 15 days to match the Griz contract but were deterred by luxury tax implications. The Rockets instead signed forwards Adrian Griffin and Eric Piatkowski leading up to Friday's deadline on Posey.
