We still have one of the worst defenses in the league so ultimately does it matter? Instead of being 29th we might be 30th. I think in football it matters less about the individual player. I think kubiak is turning it around, but I would rate them upper middle of the pack until they get to the playoffs. The dolphins went from 1-15 to the playoffs.
Yeah, it must be summer time because the sports writers and bloggers are all scrambling to pull something out of their backsides to talk about besides the NBA playoffs.
You are so right. We should stop trying to improve the defense altogether. It's always going to suck so why in the hell would you want to draft a pro bowler? Why would you try to improve that which cannot be improved? Especially since our offense was #3 last year. We should just focus on that. We should have done what the BBS wanted and passed on Mario and drafted Bush or VY. I mean, we would have gotten a crappy player but at least we wouldn't have a pro bowl DL or LB (Demeco was in the same draft) to at least try to build our defense around. I'm sure our defense would improve a lot quicker if we refrained from acquiring guys who could be considered among the elite at their position. I'm sure that last year, with our best defensive back out and with the pass rush our other DLinemen generate, we still would have gone 8-8 without Mario. FWIW, 4 years ago the defense was 31st. Since Smith/Kubiak took over, it's improved to be 22nd. Not a huge leap but still moderately significant. It's been an upward trend and I wouldn't be surprised to see it leap into the middle of the pack this season. Much like the Dolphins defense which improved from 23rd to 15th. The idea that five random guys from the BBS could do a better job or that Mario's impact is insignificant is absurd.
The Dom Capers David Carr legacy will take some time to wash away. 2005 probably skyrocketed us up 10 spots on that list.
Vince Young on a bad day is still better than anyone who has thrown a pass for the Texans except maybe for Schaub (when he's healthy). If I'm being completely honest, I would have actually taken Ferguson with the 1st overall pick in that draft. I wouldn't have considered defense with the #1 position because at the time, we literally had nothing stopping opposing pass rushers and in my opinion, Ferguson was the best coming out that year. I would have improved our defense by taking an offensive tackle because our offense might have been on the field more than 10 minutes a game and our defense could rest
word. the suggestion that VY is better than Carr appears to have merit at first, and he was definitely without a doubt better than Carr in '06 and '07--but right now they're pretty much the same: not starting QBs in the NFL. I'll take me some Mario, thanks!
Vince Young on a bad day is running away like a coward and having an emotional breakdown. On a good day he's backing up a 40 year old QB in Tennessee
emotional breakdown and having your mom defend you to the press vs. still a push. But thank goodness he didnt try that here as our leader.
What is this, 2004? Kubiak and Smith have done a HELL of a job the last 2+ years in acquiring talent without financially handcuffing the franchise. If it was up to 5 random guys on this board, our starting QB would be Vince Young (or should that be past tense since he's barely even in the league anymore) and our starting RB would be God knows who. Don't judge the current front office using the first regime's failures as a measuring stick.
Are you a moron? The Texans have probably drafted better than any team in the NFL since Kubiak and co. has taken over.
