And Bill Simmons, he would have a field day with this. Anyone remeber "Attrocious GM Summit"... two of Forbes' top 3 GM's have managed to destroy the prime years of two of the NBA's greatest talents (AI and KG), the idea that they are anywhere near the best in Ameican sports is laughable. Way to go Forbes, way to go.

Here's hoping that McHale, Thomas, and King all get huge raises and contract extensions due to this list. Lord knows we can use every competitive advantage we can get, and having those three running teams is good for the rest of the league. :)

I'm very confident that I can be a GM after seeing McHale on top.

the way i rank GMs would simple

    1) Scott Pioli - Any time you win 3 superbowls in this modern salary cap era, you are my automatic no 1 top gm. Enough said.

    2) Joe Dumars - Took a bunch of rejects Sheed, Wallace, Rip and Billups and turned them into champions and doing so without a legit superstar.

It's the winning improvement that is killing CD in the standings...how much have we improved from 10 years ago?? The past few years we only have been to the playoffs once, and we were in championship around the 10 year mark...this is the time to see how the next 10 years from now will start!

Me thinks this article was released by Bizarro Forbes, the magazine that also recommends putting all your money either into Argentinian pesos or into a shoebox underneath your bed. Or, perhaps this is just an early April Fool's Day gag.

I think they had a good idea in looking at winning percentages and cost containment. That was a good start. They should have added some post-season success and maybe some attendance or other revenue metric (to show he's making money for the business), but they had a good start. But, the comparison thing they did was so bad it just wasn't worth bothering with. If they could think of something better to compare to, it might be worthwhile. While I don't think this would be perfect either, it'd be better to compare to league averages than team history.

Forbes ranking sports figures is akin to Kenny Smith doing videos on playing defense. Makes no sense.

This list is way off. Charlie Casserly is definitely top 5 material.

I wonder how much McHale paid to have his name at the top of this list.

He got lucky because his tenure with the Wolves has included KG being there every year. Of *course* that ups their winning percentage, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with any skill on the part of McHale.

In fact, my take is that anyone who has had KG for 11 years and not done any better than the Wolves have is a terrible GM.

Actually it's more like Scottie Pippen giving investment advice and Warren Buffet doing an insructional on playing man to man defense.

Forbes is looking at it from a business perspective - not a qualitative one. So CD has had a lot of losing seasons under his belt including last year...and the Rockets were in the red a whiles back as well. So....that's what drives down his ranking.

Honestly, I wouldn't sweat this too much.

Dawson has had a hard time getting us past the 1st round, let alone the Western Conference Finals, its hard for him to gain any ground on this list to follow up 2 championship seasons

Totally ridiculous to have Matt Millen of the Detroit Lions and Michael Lombardi of the Raiders in any top 100 "best GM" list. Just ask the fans how great their teams are. Give me a break, but Vinny Cerrato over Ozzie Newsome, Bill Polian over Scott Pioli? This list is totally whacko.
