 He's married to that chick!? Isn't her name like Victoria Silvstedt or something, the playboy playmate? I can't believe a woman that fine would marry a dork like Wragge.

No kidding. Austin is incredibly cheap compared to many other places that make these type of lists.

Plus, cost of living includes things other than rent/housing costs.

Anything's cheap compared to living in Houston. There's houses that are ~3200 sq. ft in my parents' neighborhood in Sugar Land going for $180K. Obviously, you can't compare anything to that.

But Austin home prices are quite reasonable right now. There's plenty of new development going on in Round Rock, Cedar Park, and Pflugerville. Even by my office, east on Parmer there's new houses in the 2100-2800 sq ft houses going for around $140-180K.

    Sorry dude.... :p

Hopefully pops will do better this time on the golf arrangements. Do you play? Or only the par 3 course in Austin?

I'm gonna start again...haven't played in over a year. Give me a couple of months, then I'll hit the course with y'all.

    KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD!

Seriously. When I moved here in '80 I almost had 7 or 8 wrecks the first couple of weeks because of all the fine, fine ladies walking around. They were everywhere! They still are... the city has got so big and congested that it's harder to pick them out. Not that I ever really paid or pay attention... having been married to my lovely sweetie the whole time. ;)

Just walk around Town Lake. It's always been a magnet for the fair sex... hell, to be fair... there's a lot of buffed up guys as well. I love Austin, and it's the best city in Texas (although the best people live in Houston), but it's never going to be like it was from the late '60's through the early '80's. That's when I loved it the most. It's still the most progressive city in Texas, but it's getting too damned big. (sigh)

I'll never forget flying off a rope swing into Lake Austin by Laguna Gloria in the nude howling, but trying not to be too loud... it being about 2 or 3am. Going to the Vulcan Gas Company and later, the Armadillo. Little cottages that you reached on steps up the side of Castle Hill. My girlfriends who lived in them. Leonard Cohen stopped by and sang once. I used to come up all the time from Houston in the late '60's. For those who weren't there... you have no idea how cool it was.
