Cullen Building doesn't hold that many people, like 700-800 I think.

Also didn't occur to me that some UH teachers would hand out "extra credits" for their students to attend it. Given it's hosted on UH campus, it's well within their rights, but it kinda ruined it for those that really wanted to go :(

Giving extra credit for someone like Neil Tyson is ridiculous. The guy draws a crowd on his own merit and all those professors did was crowd out those who actually wanted to see him.

Waited in line. Asked a question (I was the Shuttle guy). Watched an hour and a half lecture turn into 3 GLORIOUS, INCREDIBLE hours.

One of the best experiences of my life. If you missed it, YOU MISSED IT.

    That was you?

Awesome. I was so glad somebody asked that.

I also thought Tyson's answer was spot on.

NASA should broaden its influence and scope, and part of that is going to be Houston, Alabama and Florida making sacrifices here and there.

Yup. Was totally me. I took an audio recording of the whole talk.

Question was about no Shuttle coming to Houston.

His answer (shortened) was that NASA basically had no presence -- not even the NASA channel (and Dr. Tyson has 300) north of Maryland. LA is associated with Hollywood and glamour... Not science.

But we get to eat, live, and breathe science. And NASA. You can't throw a stick without hitting a rocket scientist or astronaut. We've got excess, and it's time to spread the love to cities with NO NASA presence. Give NASA a wider base for support.
