Swap all your bulbs out for CFL's . You can replace the old lightbulbs when you move out then take the CFL's with you. CFL's are cheap now get a big pack at Sam's or something, don't pay the 3-5 bucks a piece at Lowe's or Home Depot.

The main cost by FAR is gonna be cooling. So it basically it all matters on how cool you like your AC. Looks like you are only gonna have 2 months or so of summer.

Don't know if you'll house hunt in the same area as your apartment, but good luck finding a decent house in midtown where you pay 1100/mo.

Finally!!! Someone who was in the same boat as me when I had an apartment. I was looking at the other responses and wondered was I just irresponsible. I was on the top floor as well, so all the heat and cool went to the heavens. I am building a house now.

650 square feet 80 - 150 a month. I need to stop leaving computer on 24hrs/ a day, forgetting to turn of AC (or up AC) when I leave and leaving lights I don't need on.
