Let's just leave it at this: * Most fans (not myself) want Stevie gone regardless; in their eyes, Steve is to blame for everything wrong in this city from being the fattest city to our polution problems. Steve plays his ass off every single night and willed the team to victory against Denver to assure us a playoff spot and still gets no credit only blame. * I am a huge stevie fan but I love the Rox as well and if he gets traded and the Rockets improve tremendously (become a top 4 team in the west next season) then I wouldn't be too upset. It would give me two teams to route for (The Rox and Steve's new team) instead of one. It's not an insault to be traded, if it tremendously helps our team out then it's good. I realize it would help his game out as well b/c he can go elsewhere and realize his potential. * It just bothers me to see idiots on the board and callers on the radio who are so shallow that they say things like he is "the stupidest player in the league" or that a "high school PG could run the Rox better". If that's the case, why aren't all PG's in High school jumping to the NBA??? or why isn't Mike Wilks flourishing??? In fact when was the last time a PG entered the NBA straight out of H.S. That's right, probably never. Those fans should look at themselves cause they sound so ignorant. Hey, if it makes you feel better to call in and say stupid things like that to make yourself feel better than you must have a miserable life. * Yao is a going to be a great player & should have the team built around him. I really believe Steve could be a great compliment if he were playing the 2. Why not give that a chance? We won't know until we try it. Anyways, I really believe the Rockets will make the first round series interesting no matter who the opponent is simply b/c of JVG and the tempo/style of ball he runs, it is playoff tempo ball and the Rox will be fine if they can hit shots and don't go on too many droughts. Peace.
Severe Rockets Fan.. I actually think higher of you already for not bashing me after that little rant. I do not know if I could have done that myself.
You get props for one game, not a free pass to screw up the rest of the season. If Steve has been working his ass off night in and night out like you say and the best he can do is get 16/6/6 on 40% shooting then I don't want him on the team.
Well if that 1 game takes you to the playoffs then hell yeah. Steve had his best game of the season at the most important time of the season and he led them to a place where the Rockets had not been in 5 years. Yao's best game of the season came against the Hawks and that led them into a TRIPLE overtime win, But if Yao has one good game and that game takes the Rockets into the next round of the playoffs then I would forget about all the soft games he has had, all the missed defensive assignments, all the air balls from 2 feet, and all the bad passes from the post that he has had all season. I would come in here and unlike you guys, I would give him his props.
LOL, people have said worse to me... I can't help that I feel so strongly about Steve's play. I've watched the dude play every game since his first preseason game as a Rocket and these are my subjective opinions. They may seem a little harsh at times but so is my frustration when I see 'The Franchise' do the same crap year after year with no improvement in sight.
Really, I wish Stevie gets traded this summer. It is better for him and this BBS board. Clutchcity used to be my favorite daily forum and it has become quite unreadable recently. Quitten was blasted badly in this forum but it was nothing compared to what people here said about Stevie.
Unlike some on this board, I'm for the Rockets an use what many would say is a unbiased opinion of the team. Every player on this team has flaws, including Ming,Francis among others. This is not about a clash of stars, this is about what every team in the league strive for, championships. The playoffs are nice and it just goes to show how far the Rockets have fallen on the basketball landscape. We used to strive for rings, now we're happy to enter a field in which 1/2 the teams in the league get in. Francis is what he is which is a athletic combo guard who is stuck in the mud who's gettingby on ability alone. Once the zones were implemented into the NBA, his game has gone backwards exposing his weakness. To me, its not about just the fg% or poor asst/to ratio, its more of the issues of running a team. Watch how some of the other pg's in the league setup a pick and the decisions they make, then watch Francis. Watch the transition game once he gets the ball from a rebound and watch other pg or even combo guards like sura, barry, and guys like that. Its been proven over the past yrs that you don't have to have Magic or Isiah to win the title, but what you need in a backcourt is players who can make shots and not to the ball. No matter how many times Francis can dunk the ball and no matter how hard he plays, when the game gets close and every possession is crucial, the guards must get the offense started and make sure the team gets a good shot. This is why i think the Rockets in the summer need to try to move Francis and maybe Mobley. If a poll was posted and without blinking, how many people really trust the backcourt in a tight game? If it is known that the team had 5 possessions left in the game, does anyone really want Francis and Mobley making the decisions?
Funny trade Steve because of the state of the BBS not the state of the rockets.. Hmm maybe that one I will buy
Oh cmon. 1 game does not take you to the playoffs...thats why there are 82 games in the season. Yao has been a lot more consistent all year than Steve, yet you blame Yao for one game and Steve gets all the praise for the year? Whatever man.
Read my post man....The minny game wasn't the ONLY great game he has had this season. YOU haters have it in your minds that you dislike this guy so much that only remember the bad games. Yeah he has had a subpar season for his standard but he is not to blame for everything wrong with this team. If everyone is going to blame him for every single tiny thing that goes wrong with the team regardless of whether it his fault or not, than give him credit when he excels as well. Peace.
Severe rockets Fan I do not think anyone does not realize what you feel about Steve but please can you give it just a little break. I mean you have posted that we should trade Steve in so many threads and posts now that it appears that is your only reason for living right now. If you feel so strongly about him why don't you just get it out through taping Steves picture up on the wall and throw dart arrows after him or something. This bbs really doesn't need this constant (dare I say it again) hating of Rockets players. Because lets face it, you have crossed the border to Hatesville now haven't you?
There were actually times during the year that I thought "Francis has broken through," that he had made the transition to a structured system. He certainly made an effort to adjust. But, I really now believe that he can't play the game that JVG wants him to play. I expect some "break out" performances in the playoffs, but, the regular season schedule is a more telling predictor of performance. I am strongly in favor of a trade involving Francis during the off season. I actually, sincerely, believe that an "average" young, NBA, playmaking, sharpshooting PG (not an All Star) will make this team much better than Francis can at the PG position. Unfortunately, there is not a position on the floor with the Rockets for Francis' raw athleticism to flourish. Maybe, SF, but he is simply too small despite his incredible leaping ability. However, if JVG quits or is dismissed, or if the unthinkable happens, Ming is traded, well then, everything changes. Personally, I hope neither happens. Maybe the Rockets can get an All Star in return for Francis, like McGrady or Carter or an excellent PF.
I've never said Francis was to blame for everything. Hell Yao has screwed up a TON of times this year, but he's better than last and improving. BTW, seeing as though Francis kicked ass in the Denver game...how many of you Steve fans said anything about the Utah game? Just curious. Was it all Yao's fault then?
Lee's whole post was exactly on point. The question above cuts to the quick. It will be interesting to see how many Francis jock riders will address the post and answer the question. By the way, my answer to the question is no.
Steve only played 20 or so min and that game meant nothing. Steve had done his job the night before by winning the biggest game with an injured arm, wrist, and shoulder.
There are plenty of other people(probably the majority) that don't want Steve here. So what? This thread was basically calling out 'Steve haters' and I replied as have the other threads I posted in. Sorry if that bothers you, maybe you should stay away from those threads if you don't like to read that stuff...
Personally I don't go in to a game with a mindset of finding out who sucked the most but if you get a kick out of that then go ahead.
