i'm not denying T-mac's greatness, with a good back. but if you look at it objectively, you can't be too positive about how it will hold up in the future. and what's the difference b/t Carmelo's 28 points/game or T-mac's 28 (just an example)? You don't think Yao's game could open up carmelo's even more? if i had a choice b/t carmelo and the uncertainty of t-mac's back, give me melo.
It would be an incredibly short-sighted and impatient move to trade Tracy, especially for someone like Carmelo. What's the difference between their scoring? Not much, fine. But that's such a shallow way to compare the two players. First of all, you say Yao would open up Melo's game -- didn't we say the same thing about Tracy when he averaged 32+ in Orlando before coming to Houston? Secondly, Carmelo's all around game is non-existent. His defense is pathetic. He's a terrible rebounder for an SF his size. He has no court vision. He has no shot outside about 20 feet. So yeah, he's putting up 26 a game or so. Impressive? Sure. But do you really think it's a coincidence that all these perimeter players have boosted their scoring averages this season with the new rules? A shiver goes down my spine when I think about what a healthy T-Mac could do to this league with these rules. So yeah, if you justify Melo's position next to T-Mac with his scoring numbers, your view of a player's worth is about as deep as an episode of the OC. Seriously, even mentioning Melo and T-Mac in the same sentence is laughable at this point, and it's just sad to see it coming from a Rockets fan.
i'm sorry, where's the healthy T-mac? apparently, you keep ignoring the uncertainty of T-mac's back. would i trade a healthy t-mac for melo, hell no. would i trade a broke back t-mac for melo? you better believe it.
You'll see him next season, maybe in the preseason. If the organization decides to ship T-Mac (which I hope it doesn't), we'd know probably before training camp starts. My guess is that they wouldn't trade for him after training camp starts because they need the incoming player(s) to get settled. It would have to be after the draft, but before training camp. If they don't trade him by the end of the off season, he's here to stay. It makes no sense to keep him one more season and not trade him because if he's still injured his stock will be near 0 and if he's healthy, the team isn't trading him. All in all, I don't see this team trading Tracy McGrady (whether they should or not has been debated over a lot) and I sure hope they don't, back problems and all.
