Exactly, I can't stand the auto aim bs. They have to make aiming easier in consoles because they are not very precise. back when I used to play my ps2, they came out with the keyboard etc that was compatible with the ps2. I thought that would save me from not being able to use mouse/keyboard. But it was meant for online only IIRC. I agree, consoles are the more "it" thing for the general public. You have to know something about PC's to maintain them and game on them. But like I said, I don't know if I'll be getting a console any time soon as long as I keep my PC. My PC is like my entire entertainment system in one. It's even attached to my 42 inch LCD in the living room with a long HDMI cord.
consoles were great back in the days of gathering your friends under 1 roof and playing some games together, but nowadays things are mostly online play anyway.. i've always been a fan of PC gaming, started with starcraft, then diablo2, then counterstrike for the longest time. I like the keyboard/mouse set up a lot more than controllers and you can get some wierd desk set up that compliments your recliner
I'm a console gamer for simple reasons. The cost of upgrading your PC every few years and getting it all to work. You say $1500 likes it's nothing. When I was 15 or 16 and got really into gaming, $1500 for gaming or anything for a computer for that matter, was unheard of. $300 or $400 at Christmas for a new console was around the max. Maybe it's what is affordable for you and your family. I played consoles growing up and that is what I enjoy. The first PC shooter I played was Quake III: Arena and it was fun. I played a few other PC titles like Everquest, The Sims (when it first came out), WarCraft, and StarCraft. I ended up trying new games that asked me to upgrade my system. I didn't mind doing it. Then I looked up exactly how much all the crap you need costs. $300 for this graphics card, $200 for that sound card, $200 for something else I hadn't heard of at that time. Then you needed certain drivers for the games. It just was not for me just like consoles may not be for you. You play your games how you want I'll do the same.
I do the console thing because games are about having fun. If you get wet at the thought of how much better you can aim your guns on a PC unlike those dumbed down console games that millions have and have fun on.....then geez, get out more! By the way on the PS3, I think their biggest mistake was not doing like MS did and buying the studio that makes the Grand Theft Auto games. Once they announced that the next GTA game was going to be on the 360, that pretty much made my mind up. I haven't got any of the new consoles yet, but I'll be getting a 360 when GTA comes out.
No one bought the studio that does the GTA games. That would take a lot of money (>$1B probably), and that's assuming Take Two would even sell them and/or that the employees at the studio would stay after a buyout. They could have paid for GTA IV PS3 exclusivity (instead of "allowing" GTA IV to appear on both 360 and PS3), although that probably would have been incredibly expensive as well, particularly since Microsoft wouldn't stand to the side as these negotiations occurred. Sony apparently did work out a deal to get Rockstar's new "next-gen" franchise exclusive to the PS3 though. I'm hoping for a spinoff of Table Tennis personally. As far as PC vs console goes, they both have their advantages and disadvantages, but I love gaming on both.
Ummm.....having better control in a game is what makes it FUN. Not knowing I can aim better than a console. I couldn't care less about console gamers when I game, since I game with other pc users on xfire etc. Consoles are fun, and like someone said before. They were fun 10 years ago when people gathered to game together. Now a days, with age comes the time where people don't game together under the roof....online mainly. I'll agree that PC gaming can be costly, but I love PC's. I have no problem making additions here and there every year.
WTF ? I can't play anything online with a PS3?!?!?! And I was about to buy one (not that I ever played online with my current 1st gen PS2). I only have one weak argument against PC Gaming: Hey, Uprising, can you bring your PC and your game over so we can play a round or two? Also, can I borrow your game like I can a PS2 or a (se)Xbox?
I like both, but it is much easier to hook up HD on my 100 inch Plasma with a console, Not to mention it is cheaper.
Yes, but will that stay sufficient for gaming for 4 years? I'd imagine, at the minimum, a decent amount of upgrade will be needed in 2 years if you still want to play the top of the line games.
By hooking up HD, do you mean by cables? Takes 1 cable to plug my pc into my LCD tv (42 inch) which is in my living room, infact it's connected right now. It's connected into the HDMI port on my tv, could of plugged it into the DVI too (pc has DVI out), but used a converter to make it hdmi. Now how is it cheaper to connect a console to a tv? I don't have an HD-DVD drive on my desktop, but I have one on my laptop. @ SwolyD.....lol. I'm actually considering making one of those "fragboxes", smaller portable case with a mini gaming machin in it. I have a laptop, but just doesn't have the power I'd like to have. Considering I work 24hr shifts, and there are quite a few hours of kill time I wouldn't mind having that thing with me at work.
yeah... that video card supports dx10 along with vista. the only thing i would expect to upgrade within the next 4 years would be to get another 4gb of ram. making 8 total. i hope this PC will be average in 5 years. which will run the games then just not on the highest settings. dont get me wrong i think $1500 is quite a bit to spend on a PC but im going to be a 3d modeler/animator so it's kind of necessary.
this pc vs. console debate is just a vicious circle...it's never gonna end cause no one is gonna change their minds. I guess technically I started out on the pc but then switched to consoles...probably won't ever go back unless I'm forced...does that make me more or less of a gamer than those who use a pc?...neither..just different.
Pretty much. I've had so many good experiences on both (though I'm a little behind on the PC side these days) I'll never understand the people who can only side with one.
I'm not going to go out and buy a console. (I used to own a 360 that I bought for $99 from CompUSA's crazy sale.....then I sold it for $299 after playing Gears of War on it for 4 days) BUT, I love playing sports games on consoles. First Person SHooters, IMO can only be played on PC's. But adventure games like GTA, and Sports games belong on consoles. Even after a few years, you'll still be able to play new games. Probably not at their highest settings, but they should still be playable. Consoles are stuck with their current graphics capacity till the next gen. So after 4 years, it's like PC vs PS2 was before this generation. (PS2 pwned for a few years...then PC was better etc...)
Anyone hear of a good PC gaming rig, ready built, for someone who's PC is sadly obsolete and doesn't want to spend a lot of money on it? I have the money, but this is the sort of purchase that makes Mrs. Blade Runner crazy. "You already have a PC that works!" "Sweetie, it's obsolete. My games crawl on the damn thing." "And you already spend too much time on that Rockets site!!!" Nuts. Can't argue with the last zinger.
Lol. What's your budget? I sort of have some know how on pricing etc. I'm currently building PC's for 2 people. Waiting on some parts. You can find some good budget gaming PC's online, like tigerdirect etc. Dell might have some nice ones, although if you want to add to the system in the future stay away from dell. But before you buy, ask someone on Cf.net like me etc to look over it. If you know how to put togehter a pc I recomend going that route, save a lot more money buying the parts.
Under $1500 bucks. The more under it is, the less grief I'll get. I really need a new laptop more, but I don't game on a laptop.
You could build a good pc for that much. here's what I made a year ago for roughly $1600: Edit: Seems a lot cheaper...I spent some more money somewhere...I think. (prices back when I paid for it...cheaper now) Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 ($215) 2GB's OCZ ddr2 800 ram ($200...$30MIR) Nvidia eVGA 8800GTS ($330....$30MIR) Antec 900 case (normally around $120...got it for $69 at fry's...crazy deal) OCZ Gamextreme power supply ($120...had like a $40 rebate) Asus P5n-E SLI mother board ($120) Harddrives: $100 Arctic Silver Thermo paste: $10 Total: ~$1154 (I know I spent some more somewhere...lol) Subtract the MIR, and it was even cheaper. Since then, I've bought 2 22inch Samsung LCD's($260 for one, $209 for the other)....Another 8800GTS($250)....and 2GB's more ram ($50 after MIR) Now a days...you can get 4GB of ram (2x 2gb sticks) for $90-20MIR (IIRC) from newegg.com. 8800GT is a badass graphics card for ~$250 CPU: E6600, or Q6600 $230-$300 I recomend Seagate HD's because they have a 5 year warranty. One of mine started to act up after 4 years. I returned it and got a BIGGER hard drive for FREE. (they stopped making the 80gb)
