I've said it 100 times, they wanted James but he had conditions put on him. It's no secret TMac wanted James gone. That's everwhere. It's not even inside info. They wouldn't give him the no trade clause b/c of those conditions. James went to Minnesota and I'm sure after opening our practice gym all summer to him, helping him work out, and have him tell everyone in earsight he was signing with us he backed out. I can actually even prove it to you. Mike was wearing the AND 1 shoes this summer that he had made in Rockets colors (obviously being a FA). He started having them stitch "Ammittyville Horror" in his shoes this season. Mike gave me one of his Rockets pairs over the summer. He wanted to be here. It just fell apart on the no trade cause
I acutally would be disappointed at this stage if a 2nd round pick was what made us back out of the deal if it was MJ for Sura+JL3+2nd round pick. On this team with a win now mode what is a 2nd rounder worth to us?
I hope you're not even entertaining the thought of believing that. Two things KAS13 should never, ever post about are Rafer Alston and Mike James.
By all reports it wasn't that we refused a no trade clause, we were unprepared for the request and didn't have a chance to get back to James/his agent. Who said we made much effort for Atkins. By using our TE for JT showed how committed we were with that strategy. Personally I would have taken Atkins over James (happy with either), but by all account we made a lot more attempts at James. The sticking point by most reports centered on Hayes or Howard being required, a rotation player in the deal. Further, we had already given up our 2nd this year and next years' was conditionally given up (No can swap with us), your scenario only makes sense if it was a 1st round pick. Whether you have filtered down info from the org or not, I don't believe for a minute that a 2008 2nd rounder that would reflect the lesser of us/NO was the hold up for this deal.
You shouldn't post about Mike James then. I'll give you Skip (you know why) but the same can be said of you and Mike James (not the samne situation obviously but he is man crush for you). That's just what I heard. I heard the Hayes stuff too as well as the Juwan. It fell apart at the last minute and it was on us, not Minnesota
We were not unprepared for it at all. You don't draw up a contract proposal, work with a guy all summer, and then get blindsided (unless your the Texans and your front office is full of idiots). You'd be misguided to think that we didn't have a chance to match. James preferred Houston over Minnesota. He was telling everyone he was coming here and woking out in our gym. Those accounts are wrong. Houston tried to get Atkins in cluded in the Jake deal but Memphis held him b/c he had interest around the league and they figured they might need him for another larger deal. We alays targeted Atkins, he was out first choice. The media never said anything about Earl Watson either but we targeted him before James as well. At the time though he was battling with Ridnour and Seattle was somewhat shopping Luke and wanted too much for both. James was a last option. I heard everything from Hayes, Howard, JL, Sura, Head, a 2nd round pick, and us having to take Griffin (althoughthat wasn't the deal breaker in the end). Just telling you what I heard, but I wasn't on the phone with Minny.
GREAT POST! Agree with everything... except that last sentence. But yes, I don't see how anyone could disagree with Mike James over our current back-up PGs.
Really? I don't know if that's the case now but there certainly was one in James's situation. That's pretty well known as well.
actually I think Kim is meaning that it isnt technically a "no-trade clause" but a trade kicker that would reward the player/penalize the team if a trade occurred.
Are you still talking about that? I've been able to debate with people from that thread on other topics with no problems and acknowledged that I was out of line (in terms of letting people get me angry and wanting to fight). I still don't agree with homosexuality. A lot of people are just like me. It's a free world bro. I don't know why you would drag that crap up again unless it was to start crap. I choose not to engage in that. I'm flattered that I'm still on your mind though and threads that I was involved in (and been long since forgotten) are still on your mind. Even funnier, you have no idea what Clutch meant by that post and he can clear that up for you (when I say that Clutch I just mean clear it up as in saying the same as me, not telling him why).
No trade clauses exist in basketball but are extremely rare. Kobe I think is the only person with a no-trade clause in this league.
you are correct: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#85 here's an official copy of the Collective Bargaining Agreement section dealing with no-trade clauses http://www.nbpa.com/cba_articles/article-XXIV.php
