Mike james stats for the 2005 season with the rockets...didn't this dude come off the bench also? http://www.clutchfans.net/players/mike_james/?gamebygame&season=2005
I dont want Mike James starting for our team. I think he's too selfish and can't run an offense or pass as well as Rafer. Coming off the bench and backing up Rafer 15-20 mins a night, or as the situation called for it, I'd love to have the guy. But yeah, I wouldn't really want to see him as our starting PG. He might be able to get his shots to fall more than Skip, but he doesn't do as good a job defering and running an offense and he just seems selfish. Mike James coming off the bench? That'd be awesome but it seems to really be out of the question at this point anyway. Getting him in the off-season or whenever to start at PG... not so much. We need a good PG that can either take over eventually for Skip or back him up with solid minutes and be good for the team. I'm just not sure if Mike James is the answer.
Hey, even though I don't like to bring him back (actually I strongly against this idea), I can understand the fascination to some degree----when Alston is your starting PG, it generates some desperation...
You are right in that his mistakes dont normally lead to turnovers(unless you count a missed shot early in the shot clock that we dont rebound), but he is still not making wise decisions of late. I really hope he quits doing stuff like that once Yao is fullly back to speed. One of the positives I spoke of is that he knows how to make good post passes (much better than his backups at that position) and knows that Yao is the number one. one of his other positives is that he doesnt turn it over when pressured...wish I could say the same thing about Luther (god love him, he is one hell of a shooter, I just cringe when teams put pressure on him in the backcourt) Im not saying he doesnt do things well, just that one of the things he isnt doing is hitting his shots, and with our scoring problems, we just cant afford bad early shots....and the number of those he is taking lately seems to be increasing. You may notice Im not one of the ones ragging real hard on him, but even my legendary patience (with players that is) is starting to frazzle. I know we cant do anything about him now but hope that our other guys step up and help cover for his deficiences. In the offseason, if Rafer does not turn it around from here on out, I'll be torn on us finding a better point or a big, athletic forward. A month ago, all I wanted was an athletic power forward, as of now, that doesnt seem quite as important as a point that can shoot.
anyone remember "James said he wouldn't sign with the Rockets because they would not give him an option to opt out of his contract after three seasons and would not allow a trade kicker in the agreement." buahhahahahaha punk!
He is wasting away, and will be even worse next year. Mike James would have worked, but now, he is dead to me. DD
I think M James has final contract ittis, Knows he doesn't have to perform and even if he gets bought out he comes out ahead. I think Bonzi will be the same way when he gets is final contact, He will get big as Charles Barkley. Maybe Rafer needs special training big Jake can stand on the sideline with a rolled up newspaper and every time Rafer screws up JVG can nod at Jake and when Rafer comes to the bench pop him on the head a few times.
How do you know he would have worked out? It's more likely Sir Flako would have become a problem on this team. Don't forget, the partial season he played here was after a mid-season trade, where he was the outsider. It forced him to fit in.
Mike James Chris Wilcox Erick Dampier Tim Thomas The all-star squad of the all contract year team. Hell let's get em all.
I don't want to see Mike James in a Rockets uniform again. I think he has issues. I'd still like a better shooting PG than Alston, but I just don't like Mike James.
One thing I must confess -- good chemistry is a precious thing. It's rare. Van Gundy understands the value of it and he's not going to do anything to violate it. I was just reading his comments after the players meeting: "I wanted them to take a moment and understand they were part of something that doesn't happen often in the NBA. This is a team of givers, not takers. This is a team that bought into the idea of team. They bought in completely. I want them to understand this has been something special." We've never had such good chemistry and that's why it's important to lock in the players that make that chemistry up, regardless of performance. Like Rafer Al..... ahh damn, wait... that's what Van Gundy said about the Rockets in 04-05. Ahh double damn ... James was on that team. I lost where I was going with this... hey, look at the bird in the tree! See you suckers at the thread bump in T-4 months.
The whole "his shooting bad is a turnover" is reflected in the bad FG%, and the guy had already mentioned his bad shooting. The three things were he shoots bad, he's inconsistant, and he makes too many dumb mistakes. Really its just 1 bad thing. Him being inconsistant has a big impact on his FG%, him making dumb mistakes according to you guys is him shooting when he isn't supposed to shoot. I get it, he has a bad FG%. You are right on that, but don't try and create more problems that really just come down to he has a bad FG%, which is really his only weakness right now. We could use a better starting point gaurd of course. But we still score more points than our opponent with him in the game. We turn the ball over less with him in the game. So he's bad for a starter, but its not like he's Ryan Bowen bad or anything.
Do we have a mild obsession going on? Is there help to be seeked? BTW - what is the Rox' fascination with mj? It seems it was duplicated previously for Antonio Daniels. James is ok, I'd welcome him back, but - w h a t i s t h e f a s c i n a t i o n w i t h h i m ?
liaten rook I know it seems that the dominant way of debating is to lump your opponent into some neat catagory, but that has its problems, mainly you end up looking the fool when you assume something like this based on one or two posts. FYI, Until the last few days, I was one of the few that argued that Rafer's strengths outweighed his weaknesses....now I make two posts saying that just maybe his weaknesses are starting to outweigh his strengths, and I get someone like you jumping in to lump me in with the segment of this board that hates Rafer.(or just his play if you take them at face value) /rant off 1) badly missed outside shots early in the shotclock is effectively a turnover, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not. Too often lately have I seen him pull up and take the shot when there isnt a red jersey within ten feet of the basket. That is plain out stupid.....its stupid even when McGrady does it. 2) inconsistencies....not just in his shot selection, but in his choices of passes, in his defensive gambles....we are a low possession team with streaky outside shooters....we can not afford for him to constantly do what I outlined. granted, I suppose you could lump all recent problems with the "inconssitent" label, but it doesnt take away from the facts. Until he gets himself more under control, he is a weakness in a lineup that must face the best the NBA has to offer to even get out of the first round. If he was the only weak spot, I wouldnt worry so much about it, but he isnt. So imo, every little bit helps/hurts and our margin for error is very small....and I just pray that it doesnt rise up and bite us.
