That's what you notice when you look at this chart? How about the fact that more independents watch Fox then the other two? How about the reduction in viewers in all demographics on CNN and MSNBC? How about the fact that Democrats watch Fox almost as much as they watch MSNBC?

If Fox is a "Republican channel" then why do more independents watch Fox? I would say Fox's success amongst Republicans has to do with how liberal CNN and MSNBC are.

I'm attempting not to post in this thread and failing. Are Liberals/Democrats/Progressives "allowed" to? I just wanted to make a comment about cable news. The most damaging thing to ever happen to CNN was Ted Turner selling it for a bazillion dollars to Corporate America. Before that happened, CNN had an identity. It might have been hard to define, many might not have agreed with it at the time, but it existed. It was real. That was lost after Turner left. CNN became filled with lightweight wannabe "journalists," whose only claim to fame news-wise is being more open minded than Fox News, which isn't saying much. 70% of their news coverage is fluff, 20% is sensationalism, with 10% actual "hard news" worth watching by those who care about real news coverage. Fox News, in comparison, and this is all my opinion, about CNN as well (based on decades of watching this stuff), is 40% fluff, 55% sensationalism, and somewhere around 5% "hard news." Maybe less than 5%. Some days a bit more. The big difference between the two is the amazing bias Fox News has against any entity to the left of the RNC. CNN has a bias, but it's a bias towards milk toast and strained peas. Ted must be seriously pissed off. He hides it well.

MSNBC remains a mystery to me.

Don't worry Deckard, there's a place for everybody in this thread, which is unusual, considering the strong bias towards liberal\progressive\democratic commenters in D&D.

I don't know if that is true of clutchfans in general, but I found it surprising at first. I wonder if a Texans board would have a different political demographic?

As far as the Fox News thing goes, I think you either need to watch all the channels to balance the bias, or none of them. I do find it interesting that MSNBC and CNN are losing viewers (especially independents) and Fox is gaining them. I think it shows that Fox being biased one direction has revealed how biased the other channels were for a long time.

Just one example, but if Clinton was a Republican, he wouldn't have lasted past his first sex scandal. The media would never have let it go away.

I completely agree about CNN. They offer absolutely nothing to watch. Half of their crap is just "high tech, new age" presentation devices. They often show vast, elaborate charts and diagrams that show almost nothing of substance. I remember during the 08 election, their coverage exclusively consisted of some special new super map that told me absolutely nothing.

That's a very interesting observation, and I wonder the same thing. How about an Astros message board? It would be interesting to see the results, and then cross reference the results with this.

I think, although I'm not completely sure, the McCain-Feingold Act had a loophole for media outlets anyway, i.e. newspapers, etc. were still free to endorse candidates and contribute money.

I think I'm one of the most conservative posters on the board, but I'm not a good measure of what people watch. I tend not to watch news on TV, I get too frustrated. I don't have much time for the news anyway. Generally, I'll catch an NPR report on the way to buy beer. Having had some personal experience with a popular news story and seeing how things get spun, by media on both sides, you can't really trust the news anyway. Just try to pick something that's going to try and give some facts, and don't even take those at face value if you can help it.

Books and movies are so much better than news anyway though.

Life was changing too fast in the 60s to rely on books & movies. Life is changing too fast now. Stick to periodicals and the tube.

I watch Fox whenever I have the chance, which is rare due to work and law school.

I am a Republican in exile, if you will, but I don't watch Fox News. Ever. Probably haven't watched more than 2 or 3 minutes since 2001 in the days after 9/11.

Actually, I have pity for anyone who sits around the house, wringing their hands, and watching ANY of the 24-hour news channels. Life is too short to get worked up about what some commentator says about a mosque in NY. Is that really what you want to spend your time worrying about? Really??

    I like your style, twhy77.

I'm making more of a Tolkien point about slowness of life and how it can be a good thing. Of course I'm not withdrawn from society, it's impossible in law school. I mainly just follow Catholic type stories on blogs or whatever. Fighting over what the tax rate should be or how the government is spending money just doesn't matter that much to me as important moral issues. And there's no real "news" on those fronts that is going to change my opinion on deep moral questions.

I.e., I don't know how you guys can keep up with the amount of news stories you do on here. It's really quite sad, I haven't been coming in here very much of late but the BBS is really struggling with information overload. Everyone's views are so warped and polarized. I blame the 24 hour news culture and the internet; the struggle to "win" arguments and point out others epic fail moments. I noticed it in myself and how I was viewing people as political ideologies rather than as people. Never good.

i'm a gawdless librul through and through and i kind of enjoy it...been watching some programming lately and i have to say, it's very entertaining. people used to tell me to "just treat it like satire, like colbert" and i never believed them, but it's totally true. there are comic moments where they use soooo much hyperbole that it appears that they don't REALLY believe what they're spewing. you can see them crack if you watch closely. and i mean, beck is in a league of his own. watching him scream about progressives destroying america and then devolve into 10 minutes of sobbing is just priceless. this is good entertainment. in small doses.

I understand your point, but I can't enjoy it that way knowing that so many people are taking it seriously.
