ATC, I like you as a poster. Except when it comes to this one issue.

No offense, but I think you have no right to judge on this one. First off, the OP was primarily addressing American Muslims. You don't live here, so it's not fair to assume that you have as much of a grasp on what's going on in this country.

Though I don't practice the religion, I physically fit the stereotype perfectly. I'm not saying that I necessarily fear for my safety. But, it definitely has made me think twice about it.

Being racially discriminated against isn't cool and it happens more often than people think. It's definitely not the norm or anything, but any instance of it isn't cool. Especially when you're incorrectly profiled to start out with.

It's even more of a sore spot for this country in particular because of all the sacrifices made for civil rights. Not to mention we've dealt with issues such as race throughout the history of American by dealing with race specific reservations, internment camps, etc... It's a scary thought to think that sort of mentality still exists.

I think playing "the victim card" is a bit overblown, but at the same time I think it's necessary. If no one speaks up and stuff like this keeps sliding, things are likely to get worse. If anything, history has proven that to us...

I do fear for my life, I am a brown Indian Muslim, with a beard. Family members have told me to shave it because of the misconception of me being a terrorist, but I do it for my religion. SO, in a very roundabout way to answer the question, yes I do fear for my life.

There is no emperical evidence to justify Muslim fear.

Statistically you are far more likely to be killed in the name of Islam than any other major religion.

There is no empirical evidence to justify your claim.

    OHH

You meant emipirical evidence but only relating to people you would know and hear about?

I thought you meant real empirical evidence, silly me.

    Carry on.

Yikes. Unfortunate timing on that one. That's very sad and I'm not saying discrimination doesn't go around against Muslims these days but incidents like these also happen within hate between two races, etc. I'm sure blacks have been attacked because they were black, same with whites/hispanics/any other race. Certain incidents like this do happen unfortunately but I don't believe it is to a point where we should always fear for our safety. I will say that the mosque situation is not helping and is creating more discrimination towards Muslims but not to the point of fearing for our safety every time we leave the house.
