I made this a public poll for one reason only, out of fear that if it was a private poll then non-Muslim trolls would vote in it to try and skew the results. I would not put it past a few people here to do that.

On the other hand, I did not see it as a problem for Muslim posters to vote on the poll, as I did not think they would fear being identified as Muslims and probably have stated as much before if they are regular posters here, given the volume of Islam related topics in this forum. If a Muslim poster wishes to remain anonymous, then obviously he is welcome to not vote on this poll, but I have a hard time understanding why he or she would be shy about being identified as Muslim.

    Anywho, was worth a try.

I know you're being facetious, and I flirted with a similar post, but I truly think this poll should be private and not public.

    Mods?

I am a muslim who is currently living in Dallas(die hard Rockets fan though) but used to live in Houston and I can say from personal experience that the people in Houston are generally more tolerant when you compare the two cities. The mosques here in Dallas usually hire off duty cops when there is a big gathering at the mosque like in Friday prayer and nights in Ramadan so there aren't any problems there, but the mosques constantly gets threat phone calls pretty much on a daily basis. About a few months ago I was on my way to the mosque, I live in the city of Murphy if anyone is familiar with the Dallas area and on the road the person who was driving in front of me had these words written on the back of his car "Islam is evil, women are people, good job Arizona, now time for Texas" and I still remember them because they made me furious but I stayed patient like my religion teaches me.

My wife is from Dallas born and raised and she has told me about many stories of people saying hurtful things to her and driving off(she wears the head scarf so everyone knows she is muslim) she also told me about an incident on an airplane with her mom and how one man was being extremely rude to her mom because she was muslim and he also deliberately stepped on her foot hard in order to hurt her physically, and that made her dad furious and it caused a scene on the plane, so like hydhypedplaya said I am more concerned for my families safety than my own because these kind of people usually pick on the vulnerable.

Like I stated earlier that Houston is the more tolerant city IMO but I was in Houston end of July for my cousins wedding and my wife who was 8 months pregnant at the time was with me, we were at the Galleria and I left my wife at the entrance so she doesn't have to walk to the car and I can just pick her up. So while I was getting the car a bunch of hispanic kids who were there for a Quince(hope the spelling is right) looked at her pointed at her stomach and said "Aye you hiding a bomb in there?" and started laughing and left, my wife is usually the quite type but I guess the pregnancy hormones had an effect on her and she cursed them out, maybe they were not expecting this kind of a reaction but they all got quite and left. My wife told me this story when I picked her up and I was pretty mad.

See the problem here is best exemplified in the video that Oski2005 posted in the other thread about that Puerto Rican fellow being harassed by the anti-Mosque protesters.

If a black male can be mistaken for a Muslim by these ignorants almost anyone who is not white can be mistaken for Muslim. People who are Hispanic, East Indians, Pacific Islanders, Eastern Europeans and Mediterranean folks all fall in this realm. If no one stands up for the Muslims now, America is headed down a dangerous path where virtually anyone can be harassed due to possible association.

How else would we have figured out that DaDakota is a Muslim that thinks "about the same" relative to the poll question?

    That's not true honestly.

It's very strange, as long as you stay in Beirut, you would never know that you are in a danger zone. It feels like Paris. In fact, they dislike the Hezbollah in Beirut. Which is probably why I got the looks, as Lebanese ppl are super white, while I actually look Arab.

just in case you were interested....it is a QuinceaƱera

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QuinceaƱera

It may have been the hormones (god knows I know about those, only male in my house) but she reacted perfectly...most of the p*ssies that would say that to a woman dont expect to get it back in their faces like she gave it them. She is obviously a spunky woman...the best kind. ;)

Its a shame that folks have to put up with this kind of stuff, just remember that most of us living around you wouldn't dream of doing something like that, but that is the harvest that is sown by the kind of FUD that the politicians and their media lackeys are spreading around these days.

It's a good mosque. No drama whatsoever. But ya, the Muslim population here is like 200-300 Muslims. The mosque is also in a sort of ghetto neighborhood and there hasn't ever been any vandalism to it during the time I've been here.

Maybe because it's a small city people are generally nice and more tolerant of everyone here.

I honestly don't know how I would react if someone did say something negative to me. Maybe just ignore it? Maybe have a civil conversation with them if possible? I don't know.

I chuckle at the idea that we're at some watershed moment where the world must stand up for fear that people might be harassed due to possible association. Like that's never happened before. We have people who protest the funerals of US servicemen after all.

I'm surprised that you could say something that nice about them, R2K. Substitute **** for clothes and **** for brains and you might be nearer the mark.
