Battier said that after seeing it up close he thought Spanoulis was one of the greatest player he has ever seen.

So now Battier is an idiot and so is everyone else seeing it.

Yao said after a few practices that Spanoulis had Nash like passing ability.

But hey JVG and his flock know better, they guy just flat out sucks.

Nevermind that Lindsey and Dawson said he was the best guard to ever come out of Europe.

    Ginobilli was drafted 55th

Rafer wasn't even drafted and he's obviously better right?

In other words on all accounts your point means squat.

    Damn I can't edit.

Rafer wasn't even drafted until second round either.

So somehow this means hus must play but Spanoulis can't?

That is competely wrong. Assists are differently measured in thr Euroleague than in the NBA. So you can not derive a comparison from that. However, you can deduce that he was the best scorer and the best passer of his team, and we are talking about the deepest team of the euroleague. He has never been a shooting guard, cause his shot is average, but he he has always had great penetration abilities. That's his weapon.
The question is now to make use of his weapons for the benefit of the team, while his task is to work on his weakness (TOs). It is difficult to say whether he improved in this field due to the limitted pt. At least, he did not do any TOs in February. :p

No Parker did not! He did not play in the Euroleague, but only in the french league, which is a relatively weak one. So his numbers can not be compared with Span's one who was selected in the All-Euroleague-Second-Team after his first year.
However, it is correct to claim that a Euro star is not automatically an NBA star, like Macijauskas. On the other hand, players like Gelaballe, who San was superior to in Europe, made it in the NBA. So, the main aspect is the coach and the team...

I think we will never know if Macijauskas would've or could've become an NBA star. That is because he , like Vspan, was benched by a stubborn coach.

No because the counterexamples of American NBA end-of-bench and washed-up vets, and NBA-wannabes (american college players who don't even make it into the NBA) who go over there and dominate like Mike Batiste and Trajan Langdon overshadow that list significantly.

You are losing your own argument.

Classic one that comes to mind.

    1. Spanoulis vs Casey Jacsobsen

I have never ever seen anyone tear Jacobsen up like that. Granted Jacobsen sucks, he is your definition of NBA "scrub" Yet he still got some playing time and a chance in the league.

Spanoulis dominated him so bad it was pathetic. I never even saw Kobe or T-Mac come close to abusing him like that.

It was like watching Yao toy with Eddy Curry.

Guys, lets be objective for a sec....

When V-span came to America he was clearly out of control....without a doubt. Then some people here started to grumble.... "Spanoulis is scrub bacause 1)he cant pass,2)high turnover ratio,3)He is not quick enough....etc
I mean come on...He cant pass? That is absurd...It just takes time to adjust at the NBA, especially at Rockets(a team with great history, and two incredible players). There is pressure.
You cant expext every guy to start playing like an all-star(if we assume that he can be all-star player, very unlikely imo). But dont be fooled, he CAN pass! As far as speed is concerned, i believe he is quick enough to handle the PG and SG position efficiently.
His turnovers were a lot at the beginning, I agree. But come on, he has 0 to's the last five games....this is an improvement...a good one.
I dont think he is ready to play as a starter, but he is more than ready to play 10 min per game. Good penetration, speed, ball handling are good attributes for a new player without any NBA experience and high Bball IQ

Anthony Parker is playing 32 minutes per game for a decent Toronto team:

    11.6 points per game
    3.9 rebounds per game
    46.8% from the field
    43.9% from 3 point land
    80% from the foul stripe
    2 assists per game
    1 steal per game
less than 1 turnover per game
    1.24 points per shot

in this, basically his first season in the NBA.

Now, you may think he's trash. But I think he is a very good baller and a decently efficient baller. Don't say he ain't done nuthin over here. He's established himself as a player, and he pushed a very good Mo Pete out of the starting lineup.

Can we get some links please? I know about Yao saying V-Span has Steve Nash passing ability but never heard Shane say hes the greatest player he ever seen or Dawson/Lindsey saying that V-Span was the best guard to ever come out of Europe. Because those seem very far fetched. I mean come on, greatest player hes ever seen? I find that hard to believe because Shane was saying Kobe was the best player. The only thing I heard from Dawson about V-Span was that he said he was a cross between Kobe and Parker, which we all know is nowhere close at this point.

C'mon now, people try to find just any reason to put V-Span over Rafer. This is probably the weakest argument. V-Span should play because he was a 2nd rounder just like Rafer? Do you know that V-Span is a rookie and Rafer is not? Being the vet, Rafer is obviously going to get the nod. V-Span, being the rookie, will sit on the bench.

He will get his chance, it just won't be this year. People bust their butts off just to make it on an NBA bench, you think V-Span should get the nod just because he was a star in Europe? Remember how it took all that backlashing from everyone for V-Span to have his "best practice of the year"?? If he was so good, there wouldn't have been an uproar over one good practice. The playoffs are almost near, its too late to start changing up the rotation. Our chemistry is really clicking and once Yao gets back, we will be fine. V-Span will have his chance to crack the rotation or take over the PG spot in the offseason, on to the Summer League and Preseason. If he is not in the rotation by that time, than he just can't get it done in the NBA.

Can someone youtube some Anthony Parker highlights? You will see he has a godly fadeaway and a very smooth jumpshot.

At this point, VSpan's turnover rate is only 1 more turnover per game than Rafer if given Rafer's minutes for the entire season. This includes several horrific turnover games VSpan had early in the season that cause his turnover rate to be high overall for the season.

Since January 1, 2007 VSpan's turnover rate has been equal to Rafer's. Since December 14, 2006, VSpan's turnover rate has been lower than Rafer's.

OMG... are you trying to really trying to justify that V-Span would have had equal or less turnovers than Rafer if given Rafer's minutes? Ever considered that there are a alot of factors that 'rates' ignore? I bet you were that V-Span prank caller saying he's the MVP because he had 100% FG in one game.

I don't think you can compare it that way. You have to consider how many meaningful minutes they play and the opponents they played against. For example in extreme, VSpan took one shot and made it in the whole season. His fg% is 100%. But you can't argue base on that by saying his shooting is better than Rafer whose fg% is 40%.

Yeah, because arguing that the Euroleague is composed of players who have never attempted to get into the NBA or failed doing so is somehow against my point that the Euroleague is not the "high international level" some say it is.

Just because one or two good Euro players pop up in the late 2nd round doesn't mean ALL of the Euros are automatically good. That's like assuming evey undrafted defensive center is a Ben Wallace in disguise.

Woo, I am flattered to have the same thought as somebody named McGrady. You beat me by a couple minutes.
