Add passing, court vision and ball-handaling to that list...and you get me Why can't I get JVG to develop me?
I didnt see the game but from all accounts Vspan played a dismal game to say the least. We were hoping he would do well for the rockets sake, but since he didn't do well, our loyalty is always to the rockets team. No excuses , from all accounts he really sucked out there and so did rafer, he is raw material and our deficiency at the pg position continues to haunt us.
V-span had a HORRID game...HORRID !!! I will be the first to admit it....but.....he was no worse than our entire team tonight. Rafer sucked...Luther sucked, Tmac didn't lead....Deke stunk..Battier Sucked...the WHOLE friggen team sucked. JVG- where was the promised energy? JVG SUCKED ! V-Span was just trying to fit in. DD
Typical of the vspan bashes to gang up on him after today when he had a few turnovers. Yet they were no where to be seen when he had ZERO turnovers the previous 5 games!!
Exactly. The mental aspect of the game is huge. Right now, VSPAN is just thinking too much, trying not to mess up.
This was the first time in a long time he saw significant minutes outside of garbage time. He also was the primary PG on the floor (usually, he's paired with Rafer or Lucas).
because this was the first time he played minutes against non-scrubs props to JVG for actually giving the guy a chance, but he proved that he isn't ready, which doesn't mean he won't be someday. He just proved that he's a rookie that needs more time. My point is that threads like this where people claim that he is the savior are b.s. That said, Rafer is horrible as welll....
I'm not going to defend any players on this game. Every player outside of Novak and Lucas should be in the dog house right now. JVG should be nearing lame duck status. However let's try to at least be objective. That entire game was garbage time, and by the time Spanoulis got in it was the garbage of garbage time. but like I said other than Lucas and Novak they should all be in the dog house........... well now that I think about it, Lucas was just jacking it up too but hey what else could he do?
VSPAN ain't got it this year. He got his chance and just clearly not ready to handle pressure. He needs more time. Basically, we don't have any options at point except for Rafer - not sure Synder can play the point. We're in trouble. Rafer is going to be a problem and a major liability. Sure he may have the occasional decent game - but his decision making is just really poor.
No, it wasn't. Garbage time is when the other team's bench warmers are on the floor. It generally commences in the last 5 minutes of a game. He was playing with our regular and against the opponent's regulars -- that's the situation he'd be in if he was in our regular rotation. And he was handling primary PG duties -- the role you and others want him to have. This was a good test, and he failed it. I'm not going to say this proves he's worthless, I hope he has other chances to prove himself. But let's face it -- we shouldn't expect him to be a productive rotation player this season. He had a couple nice games way back in November, but other than that it's been ugly.
I 'm not sure he proved anything. If 12 minutes proves he should not be playing then Head and Rafer need to be waived.. hell waive all 4 point guards right now. If anything Rafer and Head have had about 6 straight games of "proving" they do not belong in the NBA. I am not backuing up Spanoulis tonight, he just flat out didn't give a damn, but come on, this game didn't do one thing to show that Rafer or Head is any better. As for Lucas he looked best tonight, and he' STILL manages to never look like a PG. The only thing this game "proved" to me is that a first round exit is coming shortly, unless Yao dn T-Mac just go completely insane. Even then a 2nd round exit is imminent. Bye bye JVG.
Yeah, he had a few of those famous passes of his which are so accurate that the other Rocket players aren't prepared to handle them. V-Span had about two turnovers for every one time he touched the ball.
Durvasa that is the definition of garbage time. The Spurs were probably wishing we slip to the 6 seed about half way through the FIRST quarter. You talk about others loving and blindly praising players but I see you throwing around way too much love for this team's prospects and it's coach. This team is not going anywhere even with Yao, it's only a few hanger oners that still are being "blind."
Yes, V-Span must have been watching Luther or Rafer pass, because he had some DOOZIES tonight. I applaud JVG for trying V-Span at the beginning of the 4th quarter...trying someone different to bring a spark, but tonigh Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwan and Charles Barkley would not have helped. The Rockets just plain stunk. DD
Agree that Rafer/Luther are playing terribly right now. But, despite both of their obvious weaknesses (Rafer not being able to finish a layup and Luther being the worst decision maker in the NBA), at least they can hit open shots (sometimes). Billy can't do that yet. E.G.-passed up a wide open three because he knows he can't make it. I know that our backcourt is a major liability, but this forum praises a player (Vspan) constantly who has consistently proven that he just isn't ready yet...which is fine for a rookie, but around these parts you would think he is Nash And love or hate JVG basketball, which is admitedley(sp?) tough to watch and boring, he has this team in prime position for a playoff spot...with this abortion of a roster. Props for that
Accurate to the third row in the stands maybe. His 3 TO were especially horrendous. Two passes thrown into the crowd, and another dribbling into the corner and getting trapped. That said, the entire team pretty much sucked tonight, so I shouldn't pick on him. I thought it was telling that even the bench guys looked exhausted out there. I think the late flight and all that really sapped them. That, and the Spurs were really freaking good.
No, you don't. I don't think I've said anything about the team's prospects in the playoffs. And my views on JVG is consistent with what most NBA people and the media are saying. He's done an admirable job with this team considering the injuries. He's a legitimate COTY candidate, unless the team doesn't turn around from their recent slump. Watching the Rockets must just be a miserable experience for you. Why don't you take the rest of this season off and come back next year. By then, maybe we'll have a new coach and V-Span will be our starter.
