The use it because they have nothing better and want as much information as possible even if that information is almost (just not completely) useless. However it has little correlation to NFL success or draft status, there are probably 10+ more important measures.
desert.. I agree, it isn't the most important factor.. but probably comes into play when someone scores REALLY low..
COMBINE OFFICIAL SCREWED UP VINCE'S WONDERLIC A league source tells us that Texas quarterback Vince Young indeed scored a six on the Wonderlic test on Saturday -- but that the guy who graded the test screwed the thing up when totaling the number of right answers. Combine officials, we're told, have re-scored the Young's test and the test of all other players who took it in his group. NFL teams will get the official Wonderlic results for all players later in the week. On Saturday, there was widespread chatter at the combine that Young got only six out of 50 questions right on the standard test used by the NFL to gauge player intelligence. The Nashville Tennessean corroborated the reports of the low score in its Sunday edition. From www.profootballtalk.com
Now profootballtalk.com is saying the person grading the test at the combine screwed up, and they re-graded Vince's test. Man WTF? I swear this is scripted for tv!!
Like I said, Sean Taylor's 7 in the most mentally demanding defensive position didn't seem to hurt his draft status at all. He is a good NFL player too. If VY scores a 6, it is bad, but not a killer.
Supposedly, the rumor is false and the person responsible for it has been fired. I'm not on the inside it's just what I've heard from various other sites on the internet. Supposedly, VY didn't score too high on the test but scored higher than Dan Marino, Steve McNair and Neil O'Donnell. Here's some sample questions of the Wunderlich test from ESPN's Page 2: http://espn.go.com/page2/s/closer/020228test.html
I would call it a killer if you have the #1 overall pick. Hopefully, what's being reported now is true and his test was misgraded.
From Hornfans. Poster is lance from 610 am http://forums.hornfans.com/php/wwwt...2491&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=all Here is what I heard and I will combine the info from both sources into one piece of info: The person who leaked VY's score was wrong. The test had not been graded at that time. That same person was fired. Apparantly Mack Brown raised holy hell about the entire situation as he was furious that VY's score had been leaked in the first place. The person who leaked the info had to apologize to Mack Brown and a number of people. I have heard what VY's score is but I must keep it quiet as I was given the info "off the record". The info I have is supposedly rock-solid and will be released publically when the teams get all of the player's Wunderlich scores. I can say that his score is still considered " a concern" for some NFL teams but it should also be noted that the score is higher than Hall of Fame QB Dan Marino scored on his Wunderlich test and higher than Super Bowl QBs Neil O'Donnell and Steve McNair. Lance Edit: I know its Hornfans.com but Lance does metion the site on his show. And his wife is a longhorn.
From the point of view of someone with no opinion or vested interest in Vince Young, I find this entire thread hilarious. This entire forum, really.
Hasn't Trader_Jorge said in that he has worked with mentally challenged people in the past? If that is true and he is taking joy in a false report about someone scoring a 6 on a test, then he is even worse than we all thought.
Yes he has. It greatly pains me to see people making fun of an allegedly mentally challenged person, whose only crime was going to UT.
... And somewhere, bigtexxx is crying in his beer. I wonder if the fired employee went to Rice? Oh, what delicious irony that would be. Hey, maybe I should start that rumor...
