How people talk truly does not mean they are stupid or uneducated. It really goes from his surroundings for the most part. I know plenty of highly educated people that talk like Vince, and many proper sounding guys that are as smart as a rock.
This doesn't really surprise me if true...I've heard some rumors that would support this about his "literacy" if you will.
Possibly. Who really knows? But agents, executives, etc. use the media to spread misinformation all the time. They damage and/or enhance players' reputations to make them rise or fall in the draft so that they can have a great chance of having the players they like on the board. It's the politics of the NFL Draft. Likewise, the ESPN Radio report could certainly be false. But it's unknown at this point in time. Even profootballtalk, who originally broke this supposed "story", is backtracking a little and now says the NFL is reviewing his results.
I also would not put it past the Texans to spin the press Mcclain into an article about this. I could care less if we draft vince or reggie but I think the texans probably will be happy if Vince did score a 6 easier for them not to draft him.
I've doubted a 6 just because that seems way low... BUt w hy would the texans spin this??? they know that the truth will come out eventually..
mattj, you're wrong, dude. Oscar Davenport of North Carolina also scored a 6 on the Wonderlic in 1999.
easy answer.. you can start putting doubts in your fans who are going nuts for vince. It will make less of a PR hit if people feel this is the reason the team passed on him.
Interesting that the Chronicle hasn't come out with anything on this, but the Miami Herald and Indy Star have stories up on this now.
I love VY, but I'm going to believe McClain and published reports over something that someone at Hornsfan "heard."
If the Texans are worried about the PR if they draft Bush then they are not going to risk an even bigger PR nightmare by releasing false test results when they know the real score will come out.
"You can wonder-lick my b*lls, captain." Seriously, these guys aren't drafted for their brains. Even QBs. Vince throw ball far. Vince run fast. Vince score touchdown.
At the time it was released it could have been what the league gave all the teams. Now supposedly the league is checking back into it. So maybe they released it before the nfl took another look.
Sean Taylor scored a 7 and it didn't hurt his draft status, and he is a well regarded player. He also plays the defensive position with the most reads and on average has the highest score. Basically the Wonderlic is a terrible indicator of football brains or NFL potential--myself and others have pointed this out many times well before this weekend. So even if 6 is the score, it is not a killer. However with some other concerns (throwing motion, unfamilarity with a pro offense) it probably ends #1 overall type pick consideration if true.
Now supposedly some other guy emailed John McClain, he now says that Vince took the test for a 2nd time today and scored a 16. Man, the drama never stops!
That score put the final nails in the coffin. I wonder if you could get a higher school just bubbling in randomly.
Who cares. Vince will be laughing all the way to the bank with his millions of dollars, National Championship ring, 2 Rose Bowl MVPs, Maxwell Award, and Davey O'Brien trophy.
