Why isn't he using that magical formula with his current team? Because they sure as hell need it.

Triple teaming on nearly every occasion.Something which the refs never called illegal despite the fact there was no zone defense in those days.

GO watch the Air Up There with Kevin Bacon.

If you like that movie then you will know how it felt watching Hakeem.

"The Jimmy Dolan Shake and Bake,
First you go left, then you go right......."

It was beyond description. Just to watch someone with that much power and grace, make the moves he made, and know that he's on YOUR TEAM!!! It was awesome!

I need to go back and rewatch that youtube clip of how he DESTROYED Robinson in the Western Conference Finals. I'm getting goosebumps all over again. :D

If anyone can help me out I'm looking for the 1995 1st rd, gm 4 playoff video. It's a classic game where Hakeem and Clyde both dropped 40 on the Jazz. I'd appreciate if you guys can...thanks!

You ask... what was it like? It was why you become a fan. Every game the guy did something that made you go WOW! I started watching basketball in jr. high with my Dad and that time still didn't appreciate the game the way I did until our championship runs. I graduated in high school in 94 and all I can say is what an awesome player. Its why the Rocket's are my FAVORITE sports team. Its /he is why I have the passion that I do about this sport.

Thing is the guy worked EVERY off season. Always came back with new moves. Never just stayed content with staying "in shape". He would even fast for Rahmadan, and still out play people.

My fAvorite memory was a block he put on KJ. A fast break that started on our end he sprinted the ENTIRE court to come out of nowhere to block a dunk KJ was loading up for. It made you go WOW! A center just ran the whole court and came out of nowhere to put this block on.

To sum it up, one word, "AMAZING"!

Because the rules have changed and he can't run that same defensive scheme. Plus there really aren't any true dominant centers like dream anymore that you need to double on the post. Most of today's top players are guards.

I'll chime in with one comment that I was thinking about while reading this thread.

Some of dream's dunks on college were outright nasty. Just plain vicious. He would **** the ball behind his head and whip his arm up over his head, fully extended. It was just brutal to watch. The TV guys would have to play it in slow motion so that you could actually see the ball whip through the air.

It made you pity the rim.

Thank goodness no one ever took that ball to the face after it went through the basket. It might have permanently altered your looks.

In the NBA my favorite memories aren't of individual moves, but of the fire. Those coast to coast blocks, the games during ramaddan, that ever-loving whuppin he put on robinson... the man was sheer drive.

Are you talking about that illegal zone that they played?

It really makes me feel old to see a question like this.

In any case... you really had to watch Dream in the context of the game, and the time that he played. The best way to explain Hakeem is to say that first and foremost he was the greatest defensive big man EVER!!! His presence in the paint was noticeable at all times. His ability to steal the ball from both big and small players was amazing and need i say anything about his shot blocking ability. Usually you get a player who is good on defense, and weak on offense but this was quite the contrary. Hakeem had a fantastic array of offensive moves that were graceful more then powerful. At times you would get frustrated by his lack of "aggression," but his talent was in following the path of least resistance. He played with his mind, and not his physical strength.

Of course when he was a younger player he was completely different, and watching the metamorphosis was a treat.

I recommend you rent, or buy, the Hakeem movie called "The Dream"

I can still remember watching all the 90's playoff series and you just knew Dream was going to do something special every game. The 1st year we won it all I lost a job and a girlfriend because I would not miss a single playoff game. Dream will always be a Rocket to me and will always be my favorite player!

The best player I have ever seen.

And that includes Jordan who was a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very close second. :D

I say "Hakeem Olajuwon" and I get all emotional! The best two summers of my life were during those championship runs.

I can just feel that cold AC blowing in the living room as I had about 50 mini heart attacks during that run. Just an amazing time to be a Rocket fan. I don't think we will ever see that again to that extent.

He is a center that has a lot of guard type of moves, well, actually better than a lot of guards. :D
