But seriously Dream could do it all.... block, steal, pass, shake you fake you and then cross you over....yes even drain the 3. The guy was amazing to say the least.

You know that uneasy feeling you get when McGrady has the ball and you absolutely know that there could be a very good chance that he misses? Well Hakeem was absolutely the opposite of that. Once he got the ball down low, it was game over.

Its hard to describe. For over a decade, we had the luxury of knowing that we were going to win the matchup at the center position for every single game. We knew he would command a double team and be an extra defender on the other side. His presence alone changed the game. People would throw hail mary's in the lane because they were scared of getting blocked.

There is not a defender in the league now that comes close to that. Imagine seeing what Deke at his best for 40 minutes a game for 15+ years and then add that with what Tim Duncan combined with Amare Stoudemire does on the other end.

Dream was consistently one of the league leaders in points, rebounds, blocks, and steals and then add 4-5 dimes a game to round it out.

probably one thing that hasn't mentioned is that Dream was GREAT at BOTH end of the floor. Most centers now, usually only good at one at the other, when Hakeem played, he was the COMPLETE package.

Him and Jordan are the ONLY players to win both the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year the SAME SEASON, along with the Finals MVP.

Watching Dream was just a beauty, work of art while watching. The way he dominated, even before the championship season, hell I still have a tape the Rockets played the Bulls in 1990-91 season where we played the Bulls for their 12th win in their "team record" setting 12th of 13 games they won in a row, which the year he came back from his eye injury he got from Bill Cartwright's elbow. I recently watched that and still how the hell we got swept by the Lakers that year.

Anyways, I am truly honored to see him play. The beauty of it, is how he was head and above shoulders against the other centers he played with in their prime, Robinson, Ewing, Daugherty and the younger crowd of Mourning, O'Neal, Mutumbo.

ANYBODY that has an argument on who was the better center in the early to mid 90's would be foolish to even argue that Olajuwon even had ANY competition.

JBIIRockets said it best to me awhile back, if Hakeem found religion a lot earlier in his career, he would be what Tim Duncan is today, competing for championships every freaking year.

No one ever felt sorry for Dream. They always felt sorry for the guy who had to guard him.

It's extremely hard not to be a homer over this topic, but Dream was the only player of his era that could truly walk alongside Jordan and not be in his shadow. He was a basketball God.

I just remember the "Dream Shake" was the most ungaurdable shot I've ever seen. I also don't ever remember him missing... ever... haha J/k.. But it did seem at times alittle too easy for the Dream.. I loved it. I always thought it was cool that Hakeem was drafted the same year I was born. My late elementary days were the best I've ever seen the Rockets play.

No words can truly describe the experience. No highlights can give him justice. You had to see it in order to believe that it was real and even then it seemed unbelievable.

I took his greatness for granted and now have remorse that I only saw him live twice. Because as mesmerizing and captivating he was on TV, he was even more breathtaking to watch in person.

Watching big men today makes me realize how special it was to see him develop into a GOAT type of player as he progressed in the NBA. He always brought something new to his reportiore every year.

No, no, no. Mark Eaton was the first time he didn't score in double figures and I remember him saying that he had never played against anyone that much bigger than him. After that, he never got beat like that again. He turned eaton into the statue that he was when he played against him again. Hakeem played against some of the best centers ever to play the game and beat them. He played Jabbar, I realize Kareem was at the end of his career, but Hakeem was at the end of his career when he played Shaq and beat him, he played guys like Ewing, Robinson who was league MVP, Bill Walton, McHale, guys who are HOF players now.

You compare him with Shaq, but Hakeem was the only big man that Shaq ever respected. If Shaq wouldn't have been as big as he is, he wouldn't have been able to do the stuff he did. Shaq never had an outside shot, Hakeem did, Shaq was never a shot blocker, Hakeem was, Shaq never made first team all-defensive player or win Defensive player of the year award, Hakeem was first team all defense for five years and was the only player EVER to win the NBA mvp award, Defensive player of the year award (which he won twice)and Finals MVP in the same year. Shaq never had a quadruple double, Hakeem is one of only four player to ever have one and almost did it twice in the same month, the only other one in Hakeems era to do it was Robinson. Shaq had a few more NBA first team awards and one more MVP award, but beyond that he has never been considered better than Hakeem at the center position.

You make an argument about the era that Wilt and Oscar played in, but I challenge that you look at the competition that Shaq has had throughout his career. He played against some of the best in his first couple of years like Hakeem who were at the end of their careers. The only other real big man that he had to play against in his prime was Duncan and Garnett. You can make an arguement about him being better throughout his career against Yao, but not Hakeem.

I need to get me that on DVD. I have it on VHS. I know the VHS ended with the 1994 championship, does the DVD as well? Anyone know if you can get Clutch City and Double Clutch on DVD too?

I always check here for good stuff like that. I don't know if they have it at the rockets shop.

 Struggled against Shaq, but outplayed him? That makes zero sense.

I found this while searching for Double Clutch:

    http://www.amazon.ca/NBA-25-Years-of-Champions/dp/B0007VY47W

It has both videos in it plus 23 other championships that I don't give a crap about. :D

He was unstoppable in the championship years. When the Big Three formed he was still pretty good, but I noticed he kind of slowed down and was not as beastly.

You could always count on Hakeem every game ! He was unbelievable and played with so much grace ! I even was lucky enough to watch him in college as well ! I had a poster up in my room growing up that said Akeem Olajuwon not Hakeem !! before he told the NBA to get his name right. He was never seriously injured except when Cartwright broke his eye bone ! I got to watch him courtside several times so I feel blessed as so do many other Rockets fans to have watched him his whole career !! Their will never be another Dream !
