He's a good player, sure. But he just dropped 27-10-8. That's a pretty good game for Tracy McGrady. Joe Johnson should not be lighting us up like that. And worse, he wasn't even the leading scorer.

We need a real 4, and we need a real point. I could see Cato being moved if we could get good value for him, ditto Mobley.

Who are you and what have you done with the real Clutch?

All kidding aside, the Rockets have to make some kind of a move. What this team desperately lacks is a leader. We have our veteran players (Jim and Mark Jackson) and mix of young horses. But we dont have that one person (Shaq, KG, Duncan, etc) that demands that best from himself and his teammates. We dont have that leader that will chew out his teammates for missing a defensive assignment or take over a game when we are in one of those offensive droughts.

Cuttino is my favorite player and I love Steve and Yao. But this group of players just does not seem to get it. I dont think Cuttino can be blamed much. He is good at what he does. A third string star/scorer. He is worth his contract. Francis on the other hand has gotten much worse this season. I would expect someone who is getting max money to take over a game once in a while. Yao is The Soft Marshmallowy Wall of China.

What I'm trying to say is that these group of core players is obviously not cutting it. There is just something wrong with the world when the Nuggets and Grizzlies (I mean WTF?!?!?!?!) are ahead of the Rockets in the standing at the half way mark of the season. A move has to be made and it has to be made now.

Rasheed Wallace is far from a model citizen or a true leader, but I believe he can become one under Van Gundy. We are constantly killed by power forwards night in and night out. I am tired of worrying about playing the likes of J. Oneal, Brand, B. Grant, and other second tier power forwards. I wish opposing teams had to worry about our power forward for once. Cause no one is giving a damn about our soft ass center and r****ded ass point guard.

Just venting, but I am tired of these pathetic ass, no heart, softies we call Rockets. :(

if it makes you feel better Clutch, it seems to be fairly common for LP announcers to mention that mobley is underrated. i have to think the sentiment is there with GM's too. mobley, especially with that contract and the ability to D and hit a 3, has to have decent to good value.

no move should be made for a "better fit" in my opinion. i want a real PF for once, not one where i have to choose b/t getting killed on offense or on defense and one where it is always getting slaughtered by any PF with quickness and some form of a jump shot (kmart and marion are above average quick for PFs, esp since marion is a sf, but damn we got crushed by them).

if we move cat, is steve the sg? if he is, who plays pg? and if we move cat for the pg, i don't want to do it b/c pf still sucks and sf is still average at best. our forwards have been the one constant negative for 4 years, maybe that could change one day. please let us get rasheed or someone good with that TE this offseason.

I agree. I don't see anyone in the league saying "Oh, no it's YAOOO MING" or "CRAP I GOTTA GUARD STEVE FRANCHISE"

If anything other teams point guards and centers end up looking like all-stars when they play the rockets.

for this offseason and the future of Rockets, please kick the Selfish Cat out!!!

We need an excellent point guard or small forward as point forward!!!

JJ could be SG if we got a guy like Pippen!

The Rockets just need to find the right mix of players. You can have the most talent in the world, and still be the worst team in the league. The issue here is chemistry, something the Rockets haven't had for six years.

Indeed, the sad truth is that the Rockets are the worst team in the league, and I see no light at the end of the tunnel.

    pgabriel,

I've heard some say that Mobley is a better 2 guard than Francis is. We'll, I wait until I see Francis at 2 before I make that decision.

But one thing is for sure. Mobley can not lead a team. He works best when he has someone ahead of him in the pecking order. He's a great teammate to have as a 2nd or 3rd best player.

Mobley works best when he feeds off of others.

Last night, I'd swear the guy was almost in tears after getting his 4th foul. He's easily frustrated when the team is on his shoulders.

Your sarcasm does not excuse the fact that Mobley simply blew it tonight. His shooting was awful, he committed stupid, dumbass fouls and his decision making was atrocious. Honestly, this guy only shows up every 5th or 6th game. Too many folks (like yourself) here are willing to settle for his inconsistent and streaky play but I think that tonight I have finally reached my limit on Mobley - it's been 4 years of watching him play like this and enough is enough.

every 5th or 6th game? where were you for the first 40 games of the season?

and i'm pretty sure he hasn't shot 25% and turned it over like crazy (actually he's never been a high turnover guy) the last 4 years. but see what you want to see i guess.

The funny thing is, this was an average game for Steve this year, outside of the assists. Scoring sixteen points while shooting in the thirties, getting 7 boards, making about 3 turnovers. He got fewer assists (playing the shooting guard) and committed 1 more foul. When Mobley has a bad game and it is very similar to Steve's average game, that is not a strong indicator that Steve is hugely better than Cat.

The team had an off night (probably suffering from some post super bowl ailments), but everybody but Steve at least bothered to show up.

Don't forget to mention Michael Jackson, Clutch. As MadMax can attest to, pgabriel has a monster-sized chip on his shoulder when it comes to Jacko as well, but he claims he is not a fan.

Earlier in the year there was a rumored Eric Williams, Tony Battie for Mobley trade being talked about. Obviously the Cavs took that trade in sending Ricky Davis to Boston.

Would people be interested in Williams and Battie now for Mobley? Initially I would say no way, but you have to wonder if this team could use more hustle guys like Williams and Battie.

I am not saying I would do the deal, just throwing it out there.

I agree, something has to be done. I dont think anything will be done before the trading deadline.

But this summer....all bets are off!

I would hope we could get some more talent back for Mobley.

I'd much rather package two guys to get one with more talent than get two guys and give up one with more talent.

In other words, e.g., Mobley/Cato for a stud.

Does anyone know/remember what the last game was like with Francis but w/o Mobley?

    SJC -
I took a huge beating as one of the few who thought Eric Williams and Battie was about what Mobley was worth at the time that rumor surfaced. My opinion of Mobley has increased a bit by the way he has bought into JVG's system. Right now, his shot selection is about all I can take fault with.

IMVHO, the problem in trading Mobley is that the NBA is loaded with good SG's or a SF who can play the 2. Can you name me one team without one? I just don't see a stud PF for Mobley + Cato. It appeared Dallas couldn't pry Rasheed away from the Blazers with Jamison and Najera and I would rate that as stronger value than Cat/Kelvin.

If you will look at the Rockets player's stats for the month of January, you will find that even Steve shot better from the field then Mobley did. That don't sound like consistently good shooting to me.

What's the matter, pgabriel - does the truth hurt that Clutch said what everyone here already knows? That you are a (reasonably) smart individual, who for whatever reason felt that life gave you a raw deal or cheated you so you have to act like an argumentative jerk?

And I will gladly proclaim that Clutch is a friend of mine. I didn't know that if you were friends with someone equates to kissing their ass (but who knows what runs through your head, so maybe I shouldn't be surprised).

That line is tired - get a clue but remove that 2 x 4 chip off your shoulder first.
