Charlie is out of surgery. His injuries were reported to be tibia and femur fractures in right leg, a lacerated bladder, facial fractures and elbow fracture.

They put a titanium rod in his right leg and he'll be hospitalized for another week with more surgery likely. He'll be able to rehab in 6-12 months.

    Glad he'll be ok.

This just reiterates the point that nothing good happens after midnight. Charlie's career is in jeopardy and the WC is definitely a goner. He had a bright future and could have come out of 2010 a star.

Was he driving? If so, he may have some serious emotional scars that need to heal as well.

    I don't think they've said.

I imagine this will affect the psyche of the team tonight. There wasn't much to play for to begin with. Don't want to end qualifying getting blown out and you don't want to give the perception that you're allowing a Costa Rica win when there is so much on the line for them. Still, you have to figure the US team will have their friend much more on their minds tonight.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlie_Davies#Automobile_accident - has him as a PASSENGER.

FACTOID: Last qualification round for 2006, MEX and USA were tied in points at the end of the qualification round after MEX lost at TRI and USA won at PAN. Even though MEX had more goals in favor than USA, USA made first place from head-to-head tie-breaking from the scores 1-2 and 2-0. This year, the scores were exactly the same in both games (home and away), and that could make the difference after tonight if the U.S. loses and MEXICO ties.

EDIT - I APOLOGIZE: the newer tie-breaker rules for the 2010 Qualifying stage differ from the 2006 edition.

    GOAL. 21' Ruiz.

    GOAL. 24' Ruiz.

    USA 0 - CRC 2

... at the 31st minute. Looks like the U.S. likes to come from behind...?

No score anywhere else. Trinidad brought it today and has scared Ochoa 3 times already... we don't have as much power as we did on Saturday.

EDIT: It was a matter of time.

    GOAL. Batiste 31' (pk).
    TRI 1 - MEX 0. :(

4th place team now plays Uruguay in a play-off thanks to Argentina (who qualified with the win!!! :)).

    Thanks Maradona, now resign please.

I'm surprised to see everyone talkin about USA's bid to the world cup here. I'm American, but please USA football is (no comment). I have routed for Argentina in the last decade, and I say it's great we qualified but Maradona needs to get sacked. He's inspirational, but that's not the only criteria of a coach. Hope to see Riquelme back in the line up after Maradona leaves, and Cambiasso.

Show some respect to USA football, sir. I am warning you. Your first post in here shows what you're made of.

They need guys who aren't mismatched - Messi, Aguero and Tevez are all great but how many attacking midgets can you have at once - it's like having Aaron Brooks, Allen Iverson, and Muggsy Bogues all on the same team. Oh and calling up relics like Veron, Palermo isn't the answer to that problem!

we've got about a .01% chance of being seeded regardless of where we finish in qualifying.
