What a game, I loved it. The result is ideal for us (altough a win by Italy would also have been nice). The dutch will play with the same starting line up as we played Italy. ok I'm nervous.
This is a beautiful display of team football from the Dutch. It started with something I stress to my teammates continuously: a well-executed throw-in, and then a thing of beauty from Rüud... This is a nice game, gentlemen. Are ya'll watching? arno_ed, not nervous now, eh?
Ace and arno_ed, my hat is off to your team - they look like an offensive juggernaut out there. So much quality, it's amazing - van der Vaart, van Nistelroy, Robben, van Persie, Snejder... (still, if we are going to meet in the Euro, Germany will just play ugly and win on penalties ). Holland vs. France, great match - gotta love Ribéry, my favorite player (even though he is French - he never gives up. So it'll be WC final rematch to determine who will be 2nd in this group...that shall be a great match as well.
Not even! If Romania beats the Dutch, they finish 2nd and Italy-France is irrelevant. I could definitely see the Dutch sitting a few of their starters for the next match...
I would love to see that final. I think there is a good chance it could happen, if we get past Portugal in the quarterfinal. To be honest, I think Holland and Portugal look the best so far. Germany was TERRIBLE in the match against Croatia, I saw it in the stadium and I didn't really even see us put up a fight...when a German player had the ball, all the others were constantly just standing around watching. Hmm...probably Holland and England...but it's more because our tabloids repeat the things to the Germans which are written in the Dutch and English tabloids. France, not really, not enough history there, they never really beat us in an important match, as far as I can remember. Italy is our nemesis, really, they seem to be the only country that beat us more often than we beat them in elimination matches. I think that in general, we always respect the other teams, but we fear nobody in a tournament, even if they had great showings, such as Holland now. We always feel we can win, and we often get better as a tournament goes on. Mostly, we also never give up - we have often had less individual skill, but fought our way through. And we're soooo much better at penalties than the Dutch and the English... when it gets to a penalty shoot-out, I am usually almost sure that we will win.
The Dutch play magnificent futbol. When did they go away from tactical to free flowing and attacking style, this is not the team I was expecting to see. What a wonderful performance, and it made France look helpless. WOW !! DD
Sir Jackie Chiles, I know you live in Germany, but... where were you born and raised? Are you going to any other games?
HOLLLLLLAAAAANNNNNNDDDDD. Ok i'm going to bed but i have to celebrate a bit. This was amazing, the game was a bit less than against Italy, but beating france 4-1 is amazing. We have so much individual offensive talent, just amazing. And the goals really are a thing of beauty. I'm happy Boulahrouz is getting playing time, I love his game. I'm pretty sure that a couple of our starters will not play against Romania, Robben and Van Persie will robably rest, i think Sneijder also. If we lose it would be fun because than Italy and France can go home. However 4 years ago the Czech played a B-team against germany, and still won, which allowed us to go to the second round. Ok i will write more tommorow. I'm so Happy .
I was born and raised in/near Bonn/Germany. Yes, I will be at Austria vs. Germany in Vienna on Monday, which should be great. There's a good chance that I'll also go to the German quarterfinal. From then on, I'd have to see...semi-final and final tickets are very expensive. I do work at a secondary ticketing company now, so we'll see... .
Damn it France lost, I really thought they would do well. The Dutch look damn good... Spain is my pick to win it all though, they've got the most talented young players and they seem to be clicking.
Congratulation arno_ed. The Dutch team looks scary. Beating Italy 3-0 and France 4-1 in a row is unbelievable. You guys have a lot of firing power.
England vs Germany is a war as far as I can tell. I don't think either country takes more pride in beating the other in another sport. Soccer is the "civilized" war to settle things in the past. A lot of people here in the States only know rivalries like between the Knicks and Heats or Lakers and Boston. Those are really nothing. I bet that 4 nil defeat by England still stings. Holland and Germany is also fun, although the Dutch side hasn't much success against Germany recently. Other great rivalries I can think of are Argentina vs England, Argentina vs Brazil, and maybe Brazil vs France.
17-08-2005 Nederland-Duitsland 2 - 2 Rotterdam 15-06-2004 Duitsland-Nederland 1 - 1 Porto EK 20-11-2002 Duitsland-Nederland 1 - 3 Gelsenkirchen 23-02-2000 Nederland-Duitsland 2 - 1 Amsterdam 18-11-1998 Duitsland-Nederland 1 - 1 Gelsenkirchen 24-04-1996 Nederland-Duitsland 0 - 1 Rotterdam 18-06-1992 Duitsland-Nederland 1 - 3 Göteborg EK 24-06-1990 Duitsland-Nederland 2 - 1 Milaan WK 26-04-1989 Nederland-Duitsland 1 - 1 Rotterdam WK kwalificatie 19-10-1988 Duitsland-Nederland 0 - 0 München WK kwalificatie 21-06-1988 Duitsland-Nederland 1 - 2 Hamburg EK the last matches between Germany and Holland. And in 2004 holland did get past the group stage whereas Germany didn't. so to say we didn't have much succes against Germany is false. The only reason we didn't have much succes against Germany is because we do not play them enough .
Holland looks to be a MUCH better team than Germany right now......and I still can't believe England did not qualify, how did that happen? DD
wow! That's all I can say. I don't think you guys realize how amazing what Holland is doing. Not just beating the top two World Cup '06 finalists but completely destroying and humiliating them. And they're doing it playing the most beautiful soccer. Arno_ed, it must be an amazing atmosphere in Holland. This is the best they've played since Euro 2000 right? The Robben and Sneidjer goals were 2 of the best goals you could see. I loved Robben reaction afterwards, classic. How bout V. Nistelrooy's sick move on the sideline to set up one of them? Beautiful.
