For the most part, he defended well. He is of slight build, but quick too. Yes, he did make mistakes in two goals, one from Turkey and the other in the final. But getting fooled by F.Torres is not a shame. He is an offensive minded left back and for that he's done a good job usually. I am not sure what you were talking about space? You mean he didn't close down space quick enough? Again, Torres with space is unstoppable no matter whom. Well, defensively, I won't probably put Lahm there in my starting lineup, but for his offense in my book he is the best left back there is.
Actually, I didn't remember that. From looking at your user name, I wouldn't have remembered that we ever had any beef. Thanks for reminding me, though. I usually don't hold grudges for a long time, let alone four years - apparently unlike you. Also, I think there is a gradual difference between calling someone a "giant *******" and saying that someone is "being an ass about something". I might be wrong about that, though, remember, I'm not a native speaker .
SJC, say all you want about the finals/semifinals of major tourneys that Ballacks "led" Germany to, and goal stats but to me when I watch a game I never see him have that presence that the greats have (even with Chelsea). He is a very good player, don't get me wrong, but the way people talk about him as being this great player who dominates and influence games by himself is over the top. Here are 2 other players I think are overrated in the same way (on a National team level): 1. Thierry Henry (GREAT GREAT club player (cept last season), but almost never plays at the same level internationally) 2. Ronaldinho (GREAT club player but with the exception of the 2002 WC, almost never plays at the same level internationally) SJC, you're lucky to get to go to all these games...no pics to share?? Here's a technical question: Remember when Portugal was playing Czech Rep.. that last goal when Ronaldo drove past all the defenders leaving Him and Quaresma in front of Cech? Well Ronaldo went past all the defenders and Quaresma was next to him and all Ronaldo needed to do was tap the ball in to score. However he decided to pass it to Quaresma for the goal. My question is, they both were behind the defenders, especially Quaresma. So doesn't that mean that if Ronaldo passes the ball to Quaresma, it would constitute as an offside?? I was playing my FIFA game earlier today and I did the same thing with Torres and Villa but no offside called. Can someone explain this to me?
Oh baby, if that is not the pot calling the kettle black......ROFLMAO... As for offsides, as I understand it.... Offside has to do with a pass, the recipient of the pass has to have 2 defenders even with him or between him and the goal for it to be allowed. The keeper is usually one, and then if a player is even with a defender ANY defender when the ball is struck for the pass, they are not offside. There is also passive offside, where a player is in offside position, someone on the other side of the defenders shoots the ball, and it ricochets off the post or keeper to the offside players feet who then scores a goal, this is disallowed with a passive offside call. I think that is it....am I missing anything? Thanks. DD
Offsides, IMO, has to do with the player that is in an offsides position and what is happening around him at that exact moment. Yaozer...to answer your question, as long as Quaresma was behind the ball, regardless of where the defenders are, he is not offsides.
It is not illegal to be offside......but it is illegal to be the recipient of a pass in an offside position. It is all about gaining an advantage..... DD
