I read that may happen but haven't kept up with it. Hopefully if he gets playing time he'll pull his head out of his ass and start playing well, I'm not holding out much hope though.

I looked at their roster and I guess I overlooked him. SwoLy-D's post makes sense now.

yeah, I just get a bad vibe from Manchester United. And plus I worked with the most annoying person from the UK that always bragged about how good Man. United were. That alone made me want to hate them.... and I am not even a huge futbol fan.

They shouldn't have broken the United Statesian Fulham team apart. :( But, as a double-edged sword, I don't believe it worked well to have them all in the team.

In contrast, if you take a look at the Mexicans in Germany it has worked to have fellow countrymen as teammates to win the Bundes league championship... nonetheless, the overall team chemistry helps... in Holland, too, Salcido was a winner twice. Meh, why am I talking about others here.

I would say the same thing about the majority of Liverpool fans I've met.

I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Just start a generic soccer thread, no reason to be limited to just one league.

he biggest deal was without a doubt Manchester City stealing Robinho right in front of Chelsea! That was a very big deal

Robinho wouldn't play Essien's position anyway so there isn't much connected there.

Nobody complained about Arsenal's youth movement when we bought Viera young, or Henry or Anelka or Cesc or Clichy or any number of other great players. As far as being the Oakland A's, that's a total misnomer. They sold Viera and Henry because they got old and started to lose it, same with Pires and Campbell (remember the West Ham game when he walked out at halftime?) and Ljungberg etc. The players were let go because of age, not because of fiscal issues. Our wage bill is comparable to United's. As a result they've had a really young base and it wouldn't make sense to bring in a bunch of 27-30 year old veterans. That would have both stunted the growth of the young prodigies and created a mismatched team timeline. They have, in fact, brought in experienced players in the past who had great success (Bergkamp, Pires, Campbell, Lehman). People forget they finished 4 points behind Man U last year and weren't even expected to challenge (they also lead the league most of the season), so they were actually a year ahead of schedule.

We are going to be very very good this year and in the years to come. We have RVP back and Nasri is fitting right in as the creative force we've missed since letting Pires go. Walcott is quickly coming into his own, Cesc is worldclass, and let's not forget Adebayor scores 30+ goals last year. We have the best Fullback combo in the league and players like Eduardo, Diaby, and Rosicky coming back from injury. The main question is who is going to shield Gallas and Toure at DM and I'm confident Alex Song can do the business. And that doesn't even get to Vela who after last season in La Liga looks to be a monster force in waiting.

But for how long? RVP is to Arsenal what Saha was to Man United. When he's on the pitch he's brilliant, but he spends more time in the training room. Thank God we finally rid ourselves of him.

Losing Essien is huge for Chelsea, IMO he's their second most important player behind Drogba.

You might want to check your stats.

Saha at Man United: 42 goals in 120 games

RVP at Arsenal: 45 goals in 135 games

that was such a beautifully comedic goal....

    Liverpool 2
    Manchester United 1

Berbatov got a good debut by contributing an assist to Tevez goal that put MU ahead at the 3rd minutes. However, he was invisible after that...and Liverpool slowly took command, starting from that comedic goal....and Riera apparently overshadowed Berbatov in his debut and played well linking up with Aurelio, Kuyt, Alonso, Mascherano. No problem for Liverpool who was playing without 2 of their best player (Gerrard, Torres). The introduction of Babel changes things and after a nice work by Mascherano and Alonso, Babel found the net on 76th minutes. The match ended by the MU Vidic's sending off, putting him in suspension for the next big match against Chelsea

I like when Arsenal is regarded as an after thought. They did it last year and they'll continue to do it because apparently buying big names is what makes you a contender. We don't buy stars, we make stars and get all their best years, then sell them on the decline. It's the best strategy for fiscally responsible teams.

"You weren't world class when Arsenal signed you." (Arsene's reply in 2004 when Patrick Vieira said Arsenal had failed to sign any world-class players)

No need. Many times more of those games were substitutions for RVP when he was coming up, as opposed to Saha who was bought as a finished product, as it were.

In fact, RVP scored today [IMG] - I think I missed Saha's goal.

Well, with 16 games to go, Man United are looking like strong favorites to take the title for a third consecutive year. It's not just the 5 point lead, but also the fact that after we go to West Ham Sunday, Wigan is the only team in the top half of the table we face away from Old Trafford, and we haven't dropped a point at home since the first match of the season. We've also just set the English league record for the longest streak without conceding a goal. During the current streak, we've played 11 different players in defense and only used the same back 4 in consecutive games twice. That is simply amazing. Would anyone bet against United now?

On a different note, here's hoping Villa can keep it going and crack into the top 4 this season. I'd love to see a shake up, especially if it means Arsenal are playing in the UEFA Cup next year.

I told all my mates that are Reds that come the second half of the season they'd fall right back to where they belong, the third Champs. lge spot.
The cream always rises to the top and the Reds just don't have the bottle to handle 1st place properly.
