First lesson in watching international football: FIFA rankings and indexes mean absolutely nothing. Carry on.
Buenas Tardes, everyone. Hope everyone is enjoying this World Cup fest. So far, so good for both MEXICO and USA (no loss = good). At least the Mexico group is still up for grabs but USA has to beat the Slovenians for that top spot next week. Overall, it has been a clean Cup except for that Greece Korea game... I thought the ref was letting too many people kick each other. My plan was to watch the game in HD in Univision with the local reception with rabbit ears because of the better image and it has worked and, even though I have been recording all of them on my DVR, I plan to record one or two directly from my HD tuner on my TV. The game is delayed on cable/satellite by a few seconds and you can tell the difference. Sorry I missed yesterday's USA game. I wished I could have watched it, but I was working a Quinceañera. Heard you guys played a great game and got a freebie from Green that let the ball slip past his hands. Not a big deal, a win is a win no matter how. Hopefully you all do well against the other teams. Today is the first game for Mexican referee MARCO A. Rodriguez at the beautiful Durban stadium with that huge arch. I am thinking the Australians' uniforms/kits have a Rugby style of design.
GOLAZO by Podolski! No offside. Great application of the 2-defender offside rule again. Klose was ahead but wasn't involved. GREAT SHOT by Podolski.
GOAL!!!! Klose!!! Ugh... come on, Australia! play some D! The Germans are solid on defense and are wizards on the first-touch pass and they're unselfish in working a goal. Any other cheap team would throw themselves BACK after scoring a goal, but because the Aussies aren't playing good defense, they are hungry for more goals now and attack the weaknesses. The Australians are lucky to be down only two. OK, Christopher, I'll cheer for the Aussies. But they gotta play much better D.
Australia getting pounded.. Germans easily could be up 3 or 4 goals by now. They are not looking good at all.
Germany looks very very solid. Reminds me of 2002 Germany when they beat Saudi Arabia 8-0... Ended up in the final against the one and only:
Total attacking clinic by the Germans. They will beat Ghana OR Serbia. They are playing good football, but not enough good defense. I also hope the Aussies do well. Australian Richard García speaks Spanish. I am hoping Marco A. Rodriguez tells him something about screaming too much. Some Pablo Ramirez-isms by Univisión's narrator "La Torre De Jalisco" I'll think of some more later, but he will say these in EVERY game. Most people who are fans of this sports since they were little will despise him because he seems to have a conversation with himself about the game, but he adds a nice touch. All SPANISH commentators have their unique sayings and ways to call a GOAL.
Australia looks terrible and they have for a while now. They barely beat New Zealand a few weeks ago. The US pounded them and they look horrid today. They have nothing and this game could easily end 5 or 6-0 at this point.
Fantastic game for Germany so far, easily the best showing of the tournament to date!! More importantly, German ads are WEIRD lol. I usually have an idea what commercials are about in foreign languages, but this was one time I had NO CLUE what they were trying to sell. lol
Or when Germany was on its home turf looking like the favorite to return to the finals and they faced the "old" Azurri and Fabio Grosso's shot:
We do look bloody terrible. We're panicking at the back. I worried that we went into the World Cup under done. We didn't really have a lead in against a lot of very tough sides and I think with how easily we qualified through Asia this time also didn't help compared to having to get up for playing the 6th ranked South American team last time around. I'm not a huge soccer fan at all but geez, this ref is giving us nothing!
