Two draws does not help increase the popularity of the World Cup in this country.

That game tomorrow is so big.... I do not doubt that because of these two games that it will lower any of the excitement towards that game. TEAM USA!

Smack talk on Spain from partisans of other European teams, when Spain has pretty much taken ALL OF UEFA out back and made them their b**** for the 3 straight unbeaten years, is kind of a head scratcher.

Got to agree both games were quite boring, not too many quality chances. France may have played great defense, but their midfield and strikers seemed to be out of sync. South Africa had six men back so that game wasn't any fun either. Tomorrow's games should be more exciting.

Ugly game. Uruguay's defense was incredible, but France's offense was also awful. Too many instances of not making the extra pass and Ribery looked a little lost. It's a shame that Diego Forlan's shot missed toward the end; Uruguay deserved 3 points instead of 1.

Why? This thread is fine. 500 pages of bickering about flops are still to come. :)

"They give good hand jobs" also would've been acceptable.

Geeeeeez I was just playing around, if you go back to earlier in this thread I posted my ESPN predictor results and I had Spain winning the World Cup. So I'm not hating on Spain, I'm just having some fun on their past results in the WC. A little bit of trash talk don't hurt nobody.

Somebody else was doing the same thing on one of these threads, claiming that Spain "folds" when they play tough European teams with good defenses. I mean I guess it's true if you call beating every single team of signifance in the last 3 years folding....

I predict that neither France nor Uruguay will go very far in this tournament. It was totally evident that France has the better players (except Forlan), but you could see they don't function as a team. And the coach is a bit of a caricature of himself.

For real. Too much selfish play. Anelka was just ruining the attack all game long. Gourcuff seemed to think that his early free kick on target was a license to just shoot the ball from wherever. Ribery was, for whatever reason, ineffective. Sagna and Diaby played well ... by the time Henry came on it was too late. Uruguay had packed it in. Unless they can somehow start playing together as a team and maintain their composure these guys are going to be done in the second round even if they survive the group stage (which is very much up in the air the way I see it).

Group A is completely wide open at this point. Not one of the 4 teams was even remotely impressive. I wouldn't be surprised to see South Africa steal a win from one of France or Uruguay and move on. I also wouldn't be surprised to see all the games in the group finish as ties.

Not a fan of the spanish soccer team, but they got robbed in Korea, even in 1994(not only for that play, I think). Said that, I bet for Argentina this year.

I agree there was some selfish play, but the midfield didn't play very well, there seemed to be a disconnect between the flow from defense to offense. BTW they played MUCH better today than they have in the games leading to the world cup. Defense was extremely solid, Uruguay had only two real chances. If they can build from this going forward they should be all right. Big teams in the past have been able to accomplish this even though they were in horrible form going in, I saw todays game as a positive. Ribery isn't going to be so damn awful too many times in the future.

I had Mexico winning group a with uruguay coming in second. I don't think France could put it together. I thought playing rsa first would give them some type of extra boost.

Went outside with the new Predator X boots (No, I'm not paying $350 for Vapors), and started juggling the ball like Ronaldo...Yea I'm good
