Was there a good explanation for that goal that Mexico got taken away in the 1st half? Or was it just a massively blown call?
I'm a bit dissapointed in Mexico, they gave to much away against such a bad team. Their keeper really is a unreliable.
The Striker was behind the goalie, so there was only 1 defender and no keeper between him and the goal --> offside.
If they could shoot straight. lol. Horrible rule, the keeper should be irrelevent, they are rewarding him for being out of position. DD
It was offside. You can't have the striker catch the ball in front of the goalie unless there are TWO defenders in front. There was only one defender thus Offsides and a good call.
It was explained earlier. Offsides is determined by your position between you and the 2nd to last defender. The goalkeeper is usually the last defender in a typical offsides call, but he came out, so the last defender was the one Mexican on the goal line. Striker was ahead 2nd to last defender as the ball was passed, so offsides.
Yes, there was an explanation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Offside_(association_football) Had there been 2 players on the line, it would have counted (even if the Mexican player was behind the goalkeeper), but there was only 1.
[rquoter]US players stuck in traffic jam caused by elephant RUSTENBURG, SOUTH AFRICA(AP) —This traffic jam had animal magnetism. The U.S. team bus containing about 10 players going to an open-air market at the entrance to the team hotel got stuck in a traffic jam Friday caused by an elephant, spokesman Michael Kammarman said. The congestion occurred outside the Bakubung Bush Lodge in Rustenberg. Players timed the trip to get back to the hotel in time for the start of the World Cup opener between South Africa and Mexico. Signs outside the hotel warn: “ELEPHANTS COME CLOSE TO OUR FENCE KEEP A DISTANCE OF 30 METERS AND PLEASE BE QUIET” and “BABOONS ARE DANGEROUS - PLEASE KEEP CLEAR OF THEM AND DO NOT FEED THEM.”[/rquoter]
The keeper is a player on the field. Doesn't say "10 players and a keeper". It says 11 players. They are punishing the mexican player for being out of position.
He was out of position for a second, oh well. Could be worse, like watching from home like El Salvador.
There needs to be 2 players of the opposing team between you and the goal, otherwise it is offside, usually it is the keeper but that is not necessary it can also be 2 defenders.
You still don't get it. I could give a rats behind about a team that hasn't been in a Cup in 30 years. Holla at me when Spain wins it all.
Haha, yes I've had the tendency to add the 's' for many years now. I don't know why I say it like that.
SA really played good D in this match, they had 6 men back, Mexico seemed frustrated. Don't know if Mexico will make it out of their group with this kind of showing, but it was against the host team, history has shown they are hard to beat. Props to the 9 guys on yahoo fantasy who guessed the right score and outcome, Swoly I was surprised you were one of those guys, not much faith in your team huh? My team is up next, France. I expect them to have an easy time with Uruguay.
I disagree with the 2 player rule, it was made to include the keeper but a lot of goals are rescinded because of exactly what happened, they go out on a corner or cross and leave someone all alone unmarked. That should be a goal, IMO...I think the rule needs to be changed....to where there has to be one positional player......etc. DD
We say "offsides" in the NFL etc.......which got me laughed at a lot when I worked in the UK....... DD
