I guess nobody's doubting Spain anymore. I'm still rooting for my adopted Oranje, but man, after watching Spain lay relentless siege to Germany's disciplined back line all night long, I have serious doubts about the Netherlands' ability to shut down that Xavi-directed orchestra. On the plus side for the Oranje, they're not going to be handicapped in the middle the way Germany seemed to be today, allowing Spain to dominate possession throughout the game and offering little relief for the defense. I thought Germany clearly missed Mueller, and it seemed like Ozil was the only guy capable of creating scoring chances for their forwards. It was too easy for Puyol, Capdevila and co. to shut him down and prevent him from doing any serious damage. I thought bringing out Boateng and replacing him with an attacking fullback was a great move (Sergio Ramos had been tormenting him all day up until that point) but it didn't seem to matter. Spain was clearly the better team today and they won.
I assume you're talking about Spain. I don't consider Spain a cinderella story at all. They were one of the favorites entering the tournament. Uruguay would've been a cinderella story, but Suarez was absent Although a Germany vs Netherlands finals would be great historically, Spain vs Netherlands is gonna be awesome, if they played like they did in the the semi's (quarter for Netherlands). Battle of the midfielders. That's how the trailer would've been if there was one. Now what's Del Bosque going to do with the formation? 4-4-2 with Torres or 4-5-1 with Villa alone? I think he's gonna go with the latter and add Torres in as a sub like today. Btw I wonder what Torres has to say to Pedro in the locker room... Torres: yo wtf man you acted like i didn't even exist! Pedro: que? sorry, who are you?
LOL ... it seemed to me more like Pedro just had a brain fart there. He was shown later apologizing to Torres for the mistake. He did however prove my point all along that Torres has been the poison pill in Spain's attack and the reason why they haven't looked as lethal as they can be. Torres will eventually get his form back, but I fully expect to see Pedro starting again on Sunday. I just wonder who the first sub off the bench is going to be -- Torres or Fabregas. It was easy to see why Torres came on today -- the extreme height of the German defense was obviously giving Villa a lot of trouble, and in addition Fabregas was dealing with a minor shoulder injury so it made sense to sit him out since the formula was already working so well.
I think it's a Cinderella story for sure. For years they've been robbed or just choked in the WC. I still remember 94. Are they lost to USA they thought they were destined to choke again. The first game against the Swiss for chissakes....I'm soo happy right now. I couldn't scream at work but I felt my heart was going to blow up in my chest.
considering they've never won it before, i was calling them a cinderella wasnt germany a slight favorite to win the game?
Spain +110 - Holland +240 - Draw +220 How ironic would it be for the Dutch to win in South Africa? Return of the Boers part deux.
