My bad. Y'all are right about it was on it's way in, but still, it did not go in. This rule has been set for like a hundred years now. I don't ever recall the argument for the implementation of a 'goaltending' rule in soccer, and it should stay that way.

Like someone eluded to earlier. If you compare this to another sport you will see it's basically the same thing. That goal is the equivalent to a breakaway fast break where you foul someone. You get the chance to shoot the ball and get the ball back. It's a cheap way to keep someone from getting two points in the hopes that maybe they miss that free throw and they have to work harder for 2 points to win, tie, or whatever in the game. The foul is in the scope of the game and within the rules so people will take advantage of it if they have to in desperate situations. This is what happened here. Suarez had to stop the go ahead winning goal by any means necessary knowing that if he didn't they would lose anyways. So why not go out with a red card and give them the opportunity to get a miracle save on the PK. It worked out in the end. There are a lot of things wrong with soccer sometimes but at the end of the day what he did was in the scope of the game and rules. Translate it to any other sport and it makes more sense. So stop whining
