    Horrible memory!

How much more proof did they want? If 40,000 people yelled it was a goal, then MAYBE you messed up, ref. It makes me sick to the stomach. Glad I'm not an England fan.

But he cannot change the decision even if 1 million people see it. When he calls it, he calls it. I love SOCCER for this reason. The referees won't go to some replay screen or wait for the home crowd to cry "FOUL!" to change their decision. The other team has to make up... it's not fair, but that's soccer for you. PLAY BALL.

Or, we can say, it's not fair, but that's life! ;)

I agree with you to an extent. Except when a ref makes a mistake of this magnitude in the world's biggest stage, there has to be some kinda consequence. I still pro-technology tho. When something like this happens, there needs to be a quick replay to determine what happened, but whatever decision the ref makes is final. He can choose to replay if he wants, but either way, the consequences of his decisions should be very heavy.

Maybe demoted to a girls little league for 10 years, at the very least for this ref & linesmen.

His decision is FINAL already within the game. Adding replay or "review" only adds to stopping the game. We already have enough of that.

I agree that he should not be in major games again or for 10 years. Why should little girls suffer for his mistakes, though? ;)

People complain about something like this ONLY when it affects THEM. It's not fair. They should ask for "change" when it affects EVERYONE, not just your team. I've been saying it all along, the refs make mistakes, and not just because it happens to Mexico or to the USA... it will be like that forever. Don't add anything to the game. Get rid of bad officials or those that make TOO MANY mistakes. Stop complaining only when it affects YOU.

    You are too stubborn.
Mistakes have been made against many teams by many different refs. You can't get rid of them all.
These are the very best officials in the world. They made mistakes because the game is just too fast these days. A 3 man crew was good 50, 20 years ago ... but I think they just can't keep up any more.

^ I'm stubborn because I want to keep the game PURE and without technology?

    OK. You win. I'm stubborn.

That's what [the girl in the FOURSOME] said.

Add another ref, OK, but don't add your silly technology with Replay or "Red Challenges" or something like "An LCD screen on the scores table" which AMERICANIZES a WORLD sport. Yes, I am against AMERICANIZING it.

If they refuse replay...they need a bigger crew. A linesman properly positioned to see offside, may be out of position to see the goal line. Why not a goal judge who's sole responsibility is watching the line?

Since the rest of us will be watching the HD superslomo replay, the judgement errors are too flagrant.

Everytime I think I've finally seen the dumbest post in internet message board history, swoly posts again and breaks his own record.

What I would give for an "ignore quotes" option... *sigh*

I advocate using a 5 man crew by adding 1 behind each pk area. We already have 4 man crew with the 4th man doing very little.

^ OK, I'll go with that one, maybe. We're meeting somewhere. No technology, and more officials. The 4th man is there to control the coaches and get the substitutions done. There should be a 5th and 6th man.

What I am arguing is that, in this World Cup, those that have made the "clearest" mistakes can be penalized or shown why they made those mistakes, while those who had the questionable calls should not. There were some obvious places where you can argue that it wasn't even close... and there are some that were highly questionable.

Among those that were CLEAR missed calls or bad calls that I saw:
    USA's phantom foul vs. SVN
England's goal off the cross bar vs. GER
    Argentina's goal offsides vs. MEX

Some questionable calls (not completely clear):
Italy's goal line score vs. SVK
    USA's Dempsey goal vs. ALG

I hope y'all are ready to see Chile upset Brazil, it will happen! I have no faith in this Brazil team, quite talented in certain areas, but just not as good as the hype.

Hard to argue with this article.

Refereeing at World Cup is a joke, and it's hurting image of the game

    Truth.

EDIT: Another great article on the subject.

Replay needs to be added. Plain and simple.

Keeping the game "pure" is simply gay.

    You are so gay.
It's not plain and simple. It's very difficult to implement.
