Great match. Obviously very happy. About that goal: I instantly saw that it was in, but it was very clever by Neuer to immediately catch the ball and throw it and keep playing. PAYBACK FOR WEMBLEY 1966!!! I have seen that goal a million times on German TV - that one was most definitely not in, and they got a goal (in the World Cup Final!). So this is poetic justice. Sometimes it takes 44 years, but justice is served. England should not whine about that goal. Germany was the far better team, even though we are far from perfect. I love the enthusiasm of this team. Unfortunately, I think we will bow out next round against Argentina (I have flights booked and tickets, but will not go because I have to attend a wedding ).
Oh, by the way - I love Argentina (the country and its women), but GO MEXICO tonight (for selfish reasons!).
It's not that simple even for this case. The goal was not allowed, play was active. It's not easy to just stop play to review. There might be cases when the ball rebounds just outside and the attacker could follow up and score. If you blew the whistle early, they will complain about losing that chance.
All they need to do is position one more referee behind the net to watch for the ball going over the line....not that hard really. DD
I'm not talking about that case, I didn't even see the play. I'm just speaking in general. Only review it if the ball is determined to be a goal. If it's not determined to be a goal on the field, then don't review it. Of course, if something is "close" and determined not to be a goal, what's to say you couldn't review it at the first stoppage in play and award a point then?
