This thread is screwed anyway, we need a USA World Cup thread, one that is dedicated to our national team.

    Rossi cut from Azzuri

He would be starting for the US and probably considered our top player.

    Sucks for him.

    1) Ribery
    2) Iniesta
    3) Van De Vaart
    4) Pirlo
    5) Fabregas

    -----

    6) Gerrard
    7) Kaka (he's been injured, only reason i put him this low.
    8) De Rossi
    9) Xavi Hernandez
    10) Sneildjer

Good list, I would also include Robben and Schweinsteiger and van Bommel .

    My top 10 midfielder rankings:

    1) C.Ronaldo
    2) Kaka (when healthy)
    3) Essien (out with injury, but he is a rock)
    4) Sneijder (amazing control and vision)
    5) Ribery (this WC will be big for him)
    6) Iniesta (similiar to Xavi but younger)
    7) Xavi (amazing vision, getting old though)
    8) Fabregas (his time will come, still too many ups and downs)
    9) Pirlo (getting old)
    10) Gerrard (overrated by most due to playing for England)

Through their careers, they've always been compared. To me it's who you personally prefer. Both around same age, height, accomplishments, both captains (Lampard is a vice-captain).

And yes I KNEW I was forgetting Robben. Bommel is still great but he's up in their in age.

@ChrisBosh, maybe I'm a little bias  but the reason I put Pirlo so high is not only because of crazy free kick skills and his amazing vision but because of his accomplishments. It seems like he's been playing forever but he just turned 31.

Nice list too, that Spanish midfield is amazing. We haven't even mentioned Xabi Alonso who may be top 15 too.

Ronaldo for club teams plays as a forward, but on the national team he floats a lot, so they say he plays midfield. I threw him in there but he should be considered a striker. I think Robben also plays as a striker on the Dutch squad but carries the midfielder title (not sure on him).

In regards to Pirlo, I honestly don't like his game much, but he is great off set pieces so I threw him in there.

I'm looking at this thread for the first time and not really much of a soccer/football fan to begin with. But i just have to say that this FIFA commission or whatever his title is - Sepp Blatter - who has been appearing on CNN commercials every 5min for the past 5 months, this guy looks like he must be the biggest douchebag of all-time. That is all, continue thread.

I dont think Ribery is so much better than Rooney, there are like the same, or I would say Rooney a bit better.

and is a TEAM sport, one player cant save the whole team, look Ivory Coast they have Drogba, one of the best players in my opinion, but he doesnt have other players, that support him to beat better teams, you need other players to win games too.

I'm a Brazil fan, but if Brazil doesn't win, I would love for Holland or Spain to get it.

Holland is playing so well right now, they've always been a team I've liked.
