Partially and partially because they knew they were likely set with that result. After they scored their goal, they knew they had put themselves in a good situation and didn't threaten a single time for the remaining 40 min of the game. Furthermore, any team in Spain's situation would have done the same thing. And after Chile's goal, Spain did push the ball for a while and created several chances. Even up until the last 10 min or so, they were picking their spots to attack. Either way, good enough result for both teams.
The US will be heavy favorites against Ghana, but Ghana will be loose and free flowing to start the game as a result. Still no excuse to lose. Beating Uruguay will be tough, but if the US ever plan on reaching the semi-finals now would be the time. I haven't been impressed with Brazil, whether they are saving their "next" gear for the round of 16 or not, who knows. Regardless I expect Chile to take them out. My semi-finals teams are: Uruguay Netherlands Argentina Spain Pique and Puyol are huge defensive liabilities for Spain, especially against the trickery and pace of Messi and Tevez. Argentina go through in the game of the tournament. The Dutch are strong on the defensive end but with two DM they rely too much on brilliance from Van Persie or Sneijder. Uruguay will win a close one. Uruguay vs. Argentina in the finals, Argentina wins it all!
I'm reading a lot of reviews of the American vs. Ghana game, they keep saying that this should be an easy path to the semi's for the US. Is the US that much better than these other teams?
obviously USA ain't winning the tourney but we do have a chance to make a little noise. an all south american final would be epic. can you imagine argentina beating brazil? that would be epic.
