When points are so important and scant in a game like this, you can't go around throwing out goals willy nilly like that. They need replay on stuff where points are scored, for sure.
They don't let refs play any games they want. For example Franck has no relation with USA or Algeria, thats why he's reffing today. USA right now are loosing because of themselves, no one else is responsible. Altidore has been a fail everytime he touches the ball, can't even deliver a good pass when they are on the fast break...
Maybe.. but that can go either way. These type of disallowed goal happen Million of times. Only a paranoid person would immediately scream Rigged etc. The one against Slovenia was very bad. But on the other hand Dempsy (IIRC) should have been send of in the first minute of the game. There have been many examples of bad calls by refs during WC (just think of the hand of god of Maradonna). I dislike that when things do not go the right way many people immediately think they are being screwed. Mistake happen accept it. Sometimes you win as a result of that sometimes you lose. Not everybody is against you. Do not always look for scapegoats. Sometimes it is actually that your team is not good enough. I do still think the USA will advance. p.s. As I type this Algeria is screwed by a offside call, must be rigged.
This is a good argument. And the complaint of it slowing down the game is just goofy since the refs can arbitrarily extend time. (for the record, I think the ref-time extensions are idiotic.)
Btw, everyone should look at how Bradley is playing. This kid has a HUGE impact on the team. He's a pitbull and has been perfect until now. He might not get as much love as Donovan or Dempsey because he isn't a striker, but he's been the US MVP for the tournament no doubt.
Yeah, the Dempsey goal where he put it in the back of the net while onside, was completely a good call right? DD
4 years of hopes and dreams can get destroyed by the misjudgment of an individual or two that aren't even playing. I understand both sides of the argument but 1 goal means so much in this sport and it's so easy to fix the issue.
I know this isn't related but American John Isner is at 16-16 in the 5th set of his 1st rd match at Wimbledon. You can follow that for a few minutes at half if you care.
There were 2 Algerian defenders standing on the goal line. Yes, Altidore probably tried to do too much, but it wasn't like there wasn't still traffic in front of the net and he could have just tapped it in.
I agree as well. There are sometimes I see him play and I come away w/ the conclusion that he's been overhyped by US Soccer. Isn't a consistent goal scorer but every once in a while he notches a goal that makes you say oh maybe he has a bit of talent. We'll see how he turns out.
He has very little on the ball skill, he is just a big target, who can't hold the ball, but he did get that header to Bradley for the tying goal against Slovenia, though I am convinced he was aiming for someone else and just got lucky. DD
I've said it time and time again: DON'T LET THE REFEREES DICTATE THE GAME. Make the best of your chances. The USA is so close right now, they don't need the REF. They just have to tap the ball in instead of trying to blast it a'la PALERMO/DEMICHELIS (ARG). Just put it in the net... don't try to kill the dang JABULANI.
I'm not sure if some of you are watching the same tourney. Altidore may not have scored, but he's playing very well. He's taking players on, holding well with his back to the goal and making dangerous passes. I don't think Gomez is the best partner for him and Buddle needs to get some time. I'm literally getting sick to my stomach watching this pathetic referring. It's an absolute travesty. Should have finished the empty net one, too. This should be 2-0
