The US defense is not as bad as what we saw the other night. Having DeMerit, Bocanegra, and Spector in is a huge upgrade over Bornstein, Cherundolo, and Edu (on the back line...I think he should be starting at that defensive mid spot over Rico). The gigantic question right now is who starts at that other central spot? Does Bradley risk playing a clearly not ready Gooch? Does he take an even bigger risk by moving Boca back to the middle and being forced to start one of Bornstein or Cherundolo? Or, does he go with Goodson? Right this second, I start Goodson. If he looks overmatched, you bring in Cherundolo and move Bocanegra to the middle. I think you need Goodson in for set pieces both ways. Someone has to be able to get up with Crouch and he's the only one on the roster that can right now. That being said, if the defense as a whole continues to sit back and wait for things to come to them, England will certainly shred us. You can't let their mids and certainly not Rooney get a running start at you. That was a lot of the problem last year when they were playing poorly. They were dropping into the 18 while the ball was still crossing midfield. They have to attack and shut down the space much earlier. It might open them up for some crosses over the top, but they have to trust their ability to get back. They absolutely have to stop dropping into the box and allowing so much to happen in front of them.
No USA forward or goalkeeper in the selected team has World Cup experience. Odd, but I was certain that HOWARD either did play or should have played in one of those three games in 2006. That shouldn't be a big difference, but... what strikes me as weird is that Bradley prefers to not be dancing the slow songs with the guys who took him to the dance... the Davies unfortunate events also were to blame... http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-N...resent-the-US-at-the-2010-FIFA-World-Cup.aspx Good luck nonetheless, EE.UU.. Do well and represent us well, please.
Just a few changes could've dramatically changed the face of the U.S. team: 1) Davies does not get in that unfortunate wreck 2) A healthy Jermaine Jones giving us a destroyer in central mid 3) Giuseppe Rossi doesn't screw us (Rossi and Davies would've pushed Jozy to the Bench for sure) 4) Ditto with Neven Subotic (the anchor at center back we needed; thanks alot -ya dbag) As it is, we face an uphill climb, but I felt the same way in 2002 as well I hope the U.S. & Mexico make some noise this summer
^ aw, come now... you gotta say why you're <s>stupid</s>... you know, saying this... you can't just give a passionate statement and leave. Why would that be, sir?
What does that have to do with football, though? This here thread is for the FIFA World Cup 2010, sir. It's not for your political bull****.
^ Meh. Every team who is NOT the World Cup Champion at the end of the tournament loses at least ONCE. So... yeah, whoop-dee-doo, Mexico will lose. Yippee. SO EXCITED about that. Yay. *yawn* Boring. "Demolished", though, is a very nice word... we've got to see if that's possible. I don't even know why I bother with you, but I will ask anyway: which one is YOUR team, sir?
Leave it for the D&D? How is this a topic for debate, plain hate speech, nobody is interested in such crap.
Good point, Uprising, but I don't think you're talking about this year's team... the core of the troublemakers from years past is gone. If you want to cite "sportsmanship" from this Cup's group, please do so... I'd like to hear. And ChrisBosh makes a good point, if he hates, then he hates, there's no debating that. Plain hater is as plain hater does.
I wrote three paragraphs...then deleted them because you are right, this is a Football thread. I could go on and on about why I think the Mexican gov and it's people have zero respect for America and America's laws. But I digress. All I started with was, "I can't wait to see Mexico get demolished." I stand by that statement. Does anybody here hate the Jazz? Am I not allowed to root against a team despite whatever reasons I might have in doing so? </rhetorical questions>
Dude. Speaking about Mexico in Football and attempting to compare them to the Jazz is like trying to compare maybe George Bush and The Devil... EVIL levels: 100% Evil JAZZ | The DEVIL | Lucipher | Angel of Darkness - - Hitler - - - Simon Cowell - - Dubya - Mexico's Football Team (in USA peeps' eyes) | Lady Gaga - - Judy Garland 0% Evil There's just no comparison, sir. Everyone in this here BBS will agree the JAZZ are ranked at the highest.
Eh, it's not just the players, Swoly. You know that. Fans throwing bags of crap, vomit and urine at Americans in the stands (and onto the players) doesn't exactly scream class, does it? I'm sorry, but I've seen some unruly crowds, and the one in Mexico was the worst I've ever seen. Absolutely pathetic display of humanity. I don't hate Mexico, or anything about it, but when it comes to soccer, I think you guys lose complete perspective.
^ maybe only when "at home" in Mexico. You know they will get caught if they do this anywhere else as security or authority personnel don't care about that at Azteca or any of the Mexican venues. Believe me, if the World Cup were held in my country again, that wouldn't be tolerated and security would have to be in their toes. I have never condoned such crap; ask any of the peeps here.
Ya, after reading the other guy's comments....I'm not siding with him lol. But, I honestly don't know your squad headed to the cup, I haven't checked it out yet. I am speaking of years past.....specifically USA vs MEX games........and not to mention...Azteca!
