Thanks to you, I'm salivating all over my keyboard now :D Well if it's any consolation you'll probably get a cool 12 million pounds for him (not sure what that is in Euros). That was very informative, thanks again :)

Yes, it's based off how the teams finished the last season. They actually draw the tournament out for a long time, there's about a 1-2 month break between the group stage and the knockout stage. It usually ends a few weeks before the end of the domestic leagues.

I looked at the wrong table for the calendar, the draw is on 8/24, the first game isn't until 9/12.

I root for Tottenham but fear a disappointing season.

After the food poisoning scandal that kept them out of the CL, I see a long fatalistic slide back to the mid table. Not sure how they will replace Carrick either though I haven't seen Zokora. They could win UEFA cup though, hell if freaking middlesborough can get to the finals....

Defoe is going to have a huge season, at least. Couldn't understand why Jol benched him so often last season.. he always looks sharp and a threat to score

I don't know, he started out hot then went cold and never got off the bench. I believe that the preferred strategy of Jol is to have one big striker (Mido) and one smaller one (Keane) so he is the odd man out, not sure how the new guy (Berbatov?) fits in to the picture.

Didn't you say you were posting from Singapore earlier? Man you are lucky, last year while traveling I was happy to find out that the EPL is probably more popular in Singapore and Malaysia than even in England and pretty much on Star or ESPN asia 24/7 acros most of SE Asia; hell the Roy Keane fall out was on the back page of every malaysian newspaper for weeks; good times.

Yeah, EPL coverage is nuts over here. We get an average of five to six live matches every week - sometimes even up to eight, with mid-week matches. It's even better if you're a fan of a big team. I got to watch all but one of Liverpool's league games last season. Add that to excellent Champions League and FA Cup coverage.. life is good

The flip side to all this, of course, is less La Liga and Serie A coverage. American sports get it even worse. Man, what I'd give to be able to catch more than a handful of Rockets games every season..

mate, i dunno how anyone would not have sheffield utd in the relegation mix, reading were far and away the best team in the coca-cola last season, and they look capable of a decent finish in the epl. ah, too each his own,

    my relegation picks,

sheffield utd, watford and Bolton(Allardyce set himself up for this by letting jay jay and jaidi leave, i hate the b*stard now.)

    1- Chelsea
    2-Liverpool
    3-Man Utd
    4-Arsenal
    5-Tottenham

I'm a big united(manchester) fan, but i see chelsea winning it again and i think the dirty scum from the red side of liverpool are better than ever, i see them coming 2nd.

I was going to start a thread on this but didn't think anyone would be interested. Thanks for starting it!

I always root for Man U but it is getting harder and harder as Alex Fergy is really irratating me. He ran off Becks, and now Ruud. He doesn't always make the right choices. M. Carragher for all that $? Ugh. The main reason I haven't completely given up on them is Rooney.

I don't want to turn this into a debate but I can't understand why Ruud gets so much flack. The guy does nothing but score goals which is what a striker is supposed to do. He may not be the most technically gifted player but dude is one of the best goal scorers in the world.

I still have a bad taste in mouth from the WC for what V. Basten did to him and played Kuyt who did absolutely nothing  :(

    98-99 PSV Eindhoven 31 Goals, 34 Games 6 Goals, 7 Games (CL)
    99-00 PSV Eindhoven 29 Goals, 23 Games 3 Goals, 8 Games (CL)
00-01 PSV Eindhoven 2 Goals, 10 Games (Knee injury)
    01-02 Man United 23 Goals, 32 Games 10 Goals, 14 Games (CL)
    02-03 Man United 25 Goals, 34 Games 14 Goals, 11 Games (CL)
    03-04 Man United 20 Goals, 32 Games 4 Goals, 7 Games (CL)
    04-05 Man United 6 Goals, 17 Games 8 Goals, 7 Games (CL)
    05-06 Man United 21 Goals, 35 Games 2 Goals, 9 Games (CL)
TOTAL: 204 Goals, 280 Games

    Top 5 for this season:
    1. Chelsea (I don't like them but they have too much talent not to win)
    2. Liverpool
    3. Man U
    4. Arsenal
    5. Tottenham

Bottom 5: does it really matter? ;)

    Top Scorers:
    1. Scheva
    2. Henry

I wish I had Gol TV and/or ESPN deportes so I could watch La Liga but I guess I'll have to settle for highlights on Fox Soccer Channel.

Champions League Final: Barca vs. Chelsea - Barca wins it all again with Guud Johnson rubbing it in Mourinho's face ;)

Rivaldo2181 altough i agree that Ruud should be on the dutch team, he idn't do anything on the WC IMHO.

I'm happy va Basten finally Selected Huntelaar. He is going to be Amazing, yesterday in a friendly against Ireland 2 goals and 2 assists(4-0).

The future for the dutch team looks good :D

Of course the Blades will be relegation candidates, but they seem to be having less trouble strengthening their squad than poor Reading. Division One form usually means little, too - ask Sunderland and Norwich, winners in 2005 and 2004 respectively. As for Boro: quality squad, but they've been the masters of inconsistency for some time and I think the appointment of Southgate will hurt them more than anything

But all this is what makes the relegation battle hard to predict, and almost as interesting as the title race..

OK it is final, Kuyt is going to Liverpool for 12 Million pounds (about 16 million euro).
I'm not happy about this, I think it is a good move for Liverpool and kuyt. But Kuyt was the entire Feyenoord team. Last year we had kalou and Kuyt, and they made the team, now both are gone, and we do not have a good replacement for Kuyt :(

Altough now i hope Liverpool will do good. Kuyt is a huge upgrade over crouch:D. He will do very good there.

Well, at least it was an amiable parting.. hope you guys will be able to beef up your squad with the cash. Maybe you can start watching more Liverpool matches and adopt them as your second club :)

I am ecstatic, understandably. Now we have four main strikers with very different strengths - gives us options, as Rafa likes to say. It's a great time to be a Red.. been far too long since we lifted the league title

I will defenitly root for Liverpool. I always disliked Chelsea and Man U (even tough some dutchmen play for them, and i Like van der Sar). I never had this dislike for liverpool, and since Aston Villa will have no shot at a championship i will root for Liverpool now.

I defenitly think Kuyt will become an instant starter for Liverpool, and probably one of their best players. You will love him, i think one or two games will make all the Liverpool fans love him(that is how it went when he first played for Feyenoord).

completely agree with you rivaldo2181, i've never been a big Kuyt fan but i guess good for liverpool they got him. I am a bigger huntelaar fan, the guys been on the come up since his time at heerenveen and he was always destined for bigger things. great stuff by him yesterday.

also agree with you on Sir Fergy, i know its heresy to most united fans but i wish he left last season or before so we coulda made a run at Martin O'neill or even get Ottmar Hitzfeld to take over. I still cant believe the fantastic amount he spent on carrick who can do one thing and thats pass the ball decently for a midfielder, he is not a solid tackler in the center, i woulda spent half that amount on Hargreaves, but hey, thats why Sir Alex is the manager and i'm stuck in dallas playing pickup footy.

Thank you. I know V. Nistelrooy doesn't have the flashy moves and most of his goals are due to his great positioning and timing but when he does get the ball he makes good decisions and can dribble when he has to. Bottom line: He scores goals like crazy!!! Oh well, I will root for ronaldinho and Barca, but hope Real come in second and Ruud gets the top scorer honor.

As far as Fergy, I think people in England are getting tired of his act also. He has a HUGE ego. I think if they flame out of the CL like last and don't finish in the top 3, then more heat will come on him.

I am really pissed cause my cable went out last night and TW says they can't have anyone come out until Monday   I am going to miss Round 1 of the EPL  :( Anyone go to sports bars to watch La LIga matches? Can you recomend some nice places?

Boulahrouz is going to Chelsea :(

I really like that player, but i do not like chelsea. These type of transfers alway make it difficult to dislike a team, because you want that player to do good. And with a striker, you can always hope that his teams looses with 3-4 and he scores a hattrick. but with a denfesive player it is more difficult.
