Fran should have punted. Ross should have thrown the ball. Two horrible decisions in hindsight. Fran is lucky Army football sucks.
How in God's name A&M won this game I'll never know. Melvin Bullitt's pass interference with 18 seconds was inexcusable, but I stick this bit of monumental suckage on Franchione and Darnell not being prepared. Army practically moved the ball at will. What chaps my ass the most about a game like this is that if A&M as a whole played with half the heart that Army had, they would have won by about 30. Based on what I saw tonight, Army will win themselves a few games this year on determination alone.
It never fails to amaze me that people would criticize any program that trains and sends men and women into the armed forces.
A&M football players are bigger, stronger and faster. But they continually committed r****ded 15 yard penalties. They continually got the ball slammed down their throat. They continually played soft pass coverage in 3rd and long situations. What kind of freaking work ethic and culture does Fran have in that program right now? They have had a pansy schedule so far and have taken care of business. I guess they thought a bunch of guys that might end up in Iraq are going to roll over for them. This game should be a slap in the face to the players and the coaches, especially Fran. This game makes their season go one of two ways. They either have showed that they haven't improved over last year...or it wakes them up to play with more heart and intensity and actually compete in the Big 12. With the Big 12 getting stomped in big games today, this team needs to step up or the conference starts looking very weak to the rest of the country. OU has come off their highs from a few years ago, Texas has a freshman QB, Nebraska seems to have finally turned it around, but showed they can't hang with major programs today, A&M has been down for 4 years now, Texas Tech got held to no TDs today. Just what this conference needs...another subpar year by one of their power programs.
Ever since Fran was hired, the Ags have blown at least one game against a team they should have flattened. See: Iowa State last year, Baylor in '04, and almost every game in '03. I'm with you in that I hope this was a wake up call, but if history repeats itself they'll lose one that they shouldn't. My guess is Baylor, although whether or not A&M would be favored in that game is debatable. I miss the Wrecking Crew.
If a person can't separate Army the athletic program from Army the branch of the armed forces, they are taking it way too seriously. That surprises me. No one is making fun of the noble cause these athletes have dedicated their lives for or the school itself. Saying Ross made a bad call or Army football sucks comes with the territory of the Academy fielding a Division I-A football team. This isn't the special olympics. Back in the days, Army and Navy were powers winning several national titles and Heisman trophies.
alright just looked this up, sources in the pentagon confirm that all three teams have sucked balls for quite some time now http://proxy.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/story?id=1935155&skipPrestitial=true
lol Actually, my sources (my memory) says that both Army and Navy have sucked for a while, but Air Force has actually been a top 25 time within the last 10 years. I'm looking it up now. Damn, that took forever, but Air Force finished 12-1 in 1998 ending up 13th in the AP poll and beating Washington in the O'ahu Bowl 45-25. Since then they've gone 45-37...not great, but not much worse than A&M in the same time span....actually back in 1998 was the last time A&M was real good, finishing 11th in the AP
The Corp at A&M is a mixed bag. Go ask any Marine officer about his or her opinion of Aggies and they'll say Corp Turds from A&M are some of the finest officers around. But then there are also a bunch of stupid Corp Turds that have no intention of serving at all and just like the power trip. Just because your in the Corp doesn't mean you will serve.
No offense, but did you see the game? TCU looked just as bad as Tech did. I certainly would not be tooting my horn(ed) if we won a game that way. Neither team looked good at all. Hell, TCU couldn't even get a touchdown. IIRC TCU had less yardage than Tech, and they only had about 7 first downs, period. And Tech isn't exactly known for their defense. Even the TCU fans around me noticed that this was most certainly not an impressive win. Both teams looked horrible. If I were a betting man, I'd say that both Tech and TCU don't deserve top 25 recognition at all this year. We'll wait and see. But either way, congrats. Your team sucked less than we did. Just be a man like the other TCU fans and acknowledge that neither team deserved to win with their performances.
I would not be surprised if this team went 6-6 this year. Obvious losses aside (Texas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Tech), I think we will also lose to Mizzou and Baylor.
