US soccer is doing fine, they are on track to easily qualify for the WC, and we just lost to Brazil in the Confed Cup final...... I am dissappointed that we lost yesterday, but it was much more important to Mexico than to the USA, they are on the edge of not even qualifying for the WC, and their team has been a disasterous mess....this is the type of win that can catapult them back into qualifying and carry them forward into the next year. Good for them. DD
"Easily qualify..." ? Are you saying you guys are "helping us" by letting us score five goals on your own territory to reclaim a cup? Gee, thanks!
Well, the 2007 Gold Cup had meaning. It meant a spot in this year's Confed Cup. The 2009 Gold Cup winner gets...wait for it...absolutely nothing.
I said the US is on track to "Easily" qualify, and that Mexico with only 6 points and half the matches played needed a confidence boost. And that yesterday's big win could catapult their confidence. Stop being so sensitive amigo ! DD
That's right. By us "letting you beat us" in a close game, we let all your good players go to the Confederations Cup so that you could let "players whose first and last cap" LOSE AT HOME 5-0 and LOSE YOUR DOMINANCE. Wow! We're smart! Sure thing, sir.
As mostly a lurker who doesn't comment very often, I must say it has been interesting to view the two very contrasting sides of Swoly in this thread and the Wedding Video one.
The Mexicans played a good game. I will not make any excuses, they beat the crap out of us. Now the Mexicans might have gone nuts with the whole inferiority complex thing and start drawing red cards left and right had they been losing 5-0, but the Americans showed tremendous respect for the better team that day.
Pause, Holden, Clark, Cronin, Heaps, Robles and Evans all got they're first cap in this tournament. Of those players, only Holden has a real future with the full team, possibly Cronin and Clark in the next cycle. I'm willing to bet that this was the last cap for Heaps, Pause and Evans. Perkins has 1 cap entering the tournament, Arnaud, Goodson and Rogers had 2, Beckerman had 3, Marshall and Cooper had 4. This was a VASTLY inexperienced team and Holden, and possibly Perkins and Marshall, are the only players with even an outside shot of making the World Cup squad.
Congrats Swoly, I'm happy for Mexico. Wow there are a lot of sore losers in this thread. I think it is especially funny that some posters were raving about beating Spain a couple of weeks back, and They say that the US players didn't care about this tournament. I'm pretty sure that the US players cared about this tournament just as much as the spanish team cared about the tournament a couple of weeks back. Just give credit were credit is due. I believe Mecixo and the US need each other to be able to compete in the WC.
So, I'm a liar? 7 players got their 1st cap. 7 more had 4 or less. Maybe you ought to recheck those facts before calling people a liar.
Thank you, RocketFan007, for explaining it much better than someone else and not lying. Thank you, arno_ed, sir. We needed that win. leroy, you said "much of the US roster played their 1st and last caps", when it WASN'T. That was a LIE. I stand by calling you a LIAR and won't let you say it wasn't. As long as you wear the U.S. emblem and the jersey representing your country, I don't give a darn if you've played 100 or 1 cap, last name is Donovan or Perkins, you MUST WIN or accept defeat. STFU. EDIT: Another LIE.
It's obvious that Mexico was by far the better team yesterday....there's absolutely no way around it. However, it's also obvious that the US was also by far the undermanned team. I mean, seriously, how is it even a discussion? The only players who looked like they belonged on the field yesterday were Holden, and possibly Perkins. Dos Santos and Vela were COMPLETELY in a league of their own yesterday, but you can't possibly tell me that they would have dominated the game like they did if the US's A team was on the field yesterday. The way they were playing, it's quite possible that Mexico would have still come out as the victors, but definitely not in the manner in which they did it. Nobody is taking the victory away from Mexico, and nobody is saying that this wasn't a shock, but to say that you stole the US's confidence is a MAJOR over-statement. Mexicans have all the right in the world to be proud of their team, but don't go overboard.
Re-read the entire thread. I wasn't the one who started saying this was an "insignificant" Cup... I am simply responding to all the peeps with excuses, fyreball. I angrily will disagree with you, sir. People are taking away the victory with those statements. You don't see that?
7 players from a roster who got their first cap is a bit more than a few. The 14 players that RocketFan007 mentioned have a total of 14 caps. Many of them probably played their way out of consideration. Quit being a jackass.
^ THEN THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE PLAYED and THIS GAME SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAVE BEEN PLAYED. Yes, I am shouting. How simple is that? You're still with that excuse. Keep using it and I will keep being a jackass because you won't accept anything. YOU STILL LIED.
Accept what? That we got our asses handed to us yesterday? When did I say that didn't happen? mexico won big. you were the better team. I've said that over and over and over. What part of that don't you understand? Just in case... mexico (the team that Swoly-d follows and a country in North America ) won the game (the CONCACAF 2009 Gold Cup final ) against the United States of America (another country in North America) 5-0. It was an ass kicking.
