The table after today's Newcastle-Arsenal match:

    1. Arsenal 37
    2. Man United 33
    3. Chelsea 31
    4. Liverpool 30 (with a game in hand)

What's everyone's thoughts on the big 4 thus far? I'm not that impressed with Arsenal's start, for the simple fact that they've been extremely average away from London this season. In 5 games played outside of London, they've taken only 9 points, and were extremely lucky to get all three points this weekend at Villa. They've also only taken 4 points in 3 Champion's League games this season, the lone win coming against the mighty Steaua Bucuresti. That's hardly the form champions are made of. They're going to have to leave London a lot more for the rest of the season, and if they don't improve on those numbers, they won't have a chance at the league.

I think that December will be a huge month for the big 4, and we'll know a lot more about how good Arsenal are come the new year.

It's been an exciting season so far and Arsenal has really surprised me...I thought they would be lost without the leadership/skills of Henry but Fabregas has really stepped up especially with van persie being out this long....As Long as My Red devils win it all, i am happy.

Anyone watching La Liga...I got Gol TV and been keeping up with Barca and I know fabregas and c. ronaldo are playing well but Leonel Messi is on another planet right now, dude is putting ronaldinho to shame.

I love watching Messi play, he really knows how to use his size to his advantage to be able to turn and make cuts, his overall sense of balance is unreal. Add his ball control skills and speed on top of that and he's one of the funnest players to watch right now.

Ronaldinho hasn't been anywhere near his old self for a couple of years now. But Messi has amazing talent, I think he'll go down as the best player of this generation when all is said and done.

I know he's fallen off in terms of his "flashy" play but I can't stand people saying he's no longer a great player. He's only 27, far from past his prime. Everyone's been dogging him since the WC last year but dude still scored 21 goals in La Liga in 06-07. This season he has shown flashes of brilliance but just not very consistent. Yeah he does not appear as motivated and dominating matches like he first did but his passing is still pin point and I would still take him (maybe 2nd to Beckham) to take free kicks. I think he needs a change of scenary and get refreshed.

...But Messi is definetly on a different planet, dude can do it all and will be better than Dinho in the long run b/c he actually plays defense and hussles alot more.

Where did I say he wasn't a great player? All I said is that he wasn't anywhere close to as good as he was three years ago. That's a fact. And the drop off started even before the World Cup. As you said, he's simply not consistent anymore, and I think that's the true mark of a top player. I don't know if I'd put him as one of the top 10 players in the world. And quite a few of those goals last season came from the penalty spot.

Robinho isn't in the same class as Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, and Cesc in my opinion.

As far as Ronaldo and diving, he's come a long way since the World Cup. Yes, he'll still take a dive every so often, but he's improved a lot.

    Red Devils won!!!

In the debate for best player in the World, we are all forgetting KAKA...granted he is older than all those others we mentioned (except Ronaldinho)...Kaka won FIFA Player of the Year...congrats, dude is a world class player and equivalent human being.

KAKA - FIFA Player of the Year

Here's the table at the half way point:

    P PTS
    1. ManUtd 19 45
    2. Arsenal 19 44
    3. Chelsea 19 38
    4. Liverpool 18 36

I'm a little surprised that we're at the top right, especially since we haven't even gotten out of second gear yet, and we've played the majority of the season without Paul Scholes, our best midfielder. Arsenal continues to show that they're an average team away from London, and it looks like they've blown their load far too early. They'll also now be forced to play the next month without Toure, Adebayor and Eboue, that's going to be tough for them to overcome. Chelsea lose Drogba and Mikel to the ACN and they look a completely different team without Drogba on the pitch. Benitez's tinkering takes away any chance for Liverpool to try to overcome the deficit they face. At this point I feel like it's definitely our title to lose.

I gotta agree. ManU is simply dominating right now. Tough game at West Ham this weekend, but I think they continue and win that one. No reason to think that they're going to slow down now.

And the amazing thing is, we haven't gotten out of second gear yet. That should scare the crap out of the rest of the Premiership.

Another thing I just came across, after West Ham, we will have played the top 9 teams in the Premiership all away from home, save Chelsea. Meaning all of those teams have to come to OT in the second half.

That's almost not fair. Chelsea doesn't scare me anymore, especially without Drogba. They've become the Yankees of the PL. A ton of cash in payroll and nothing to show for it.

Anyone just catch the 6 goal second half from Manchester United? That was top class football at its best. Shay Given had a number of great saves, or this one would have easily been in double digits (not to mention two very solid penalty claims, not including Ronaldo's).

    Top of the table again!
