You're wrong. In Schulenburg, on Saturdays (and only on Saturdays) the city market cooks up brisket and chicken that is vastly superior to any other BBQ on planet Earth.
I thought Kreuz was better than Smitty's. I guess I'll go back again and have a redo. What I thought was good, but I didn't like the atmosphere was City Market in Luling. the line was out the wazoo and it was disorganized.
Curse you oil prices!!!! I wanted to have some BBQ roadtrips this summer. I'll stop in Lockhart on my way to Austin in June. Best Times anyone? Wait?
This list is absolute crap without Joe's BBQ in Alvin. Woody's in Centerville should at least get an honorable mention.
Best time to go is early. get there around 11. The way you know if you got decent brisket is when the brisket is still release smoke after its cut and on the butcher paper. Ping us when you go, maybe we'll get a central texas clutchfans bbq meeting.
Hmmm..........talk about subjective. I would consider both of those places as marginal to so-so. Somebody mentioned the Salt Lick, and that made the "honorable mention" list. I LOVE the Texas Monthly BBQ editions. Sure, we don't always agree with the rankings, but they always give me some place new to want to try.
To quote the Charlie the Unicorn thread: Shun the non-believers... Shuuuuunnn! Shuuuuuunn! TheFreak - never heard of it. Will make a stop there sometime soon.
finalsbound, i use to think the Salt Lick was the best of all time, i always take people there from out of town.. then i hit lockhart.
